Grade 40 VS grade 60 rebar and UTS and YS comparison.
In Imperial or US customary measurement system, grade of rebar American standard (ASTM A 615), rebar is categorised into several grade like grade 40, grade 60, grade 75, and higher represented as ASTM A615 – 40, ASTM A615 – 60, ASTM A615 – 75, etc.
In united states, rebar grade designation represented by their minimum yield strength measured in ksi which is equal to 1000 psi (pounds square inches), for example grade 40 rebar has a minimum yield strength of 40 ksi or 40000psi.
In united states, reebar or reinforcement bars is most commonly manufactured in grades 40, 60, and 75, it must confirm to ASTM A 615 with higher strength readily available in grades 80, 100, 120 and 150. Historical grades include 30, 33, 35, 36, 50 and 55 which are not in common use today.
In this article we know about “Grade 40 VS grade 60 rebar” and comparison or difference between grade 40 rebar and grade 60. We will briefly discuse here, that help in better understanding.
Grade 40 VS grade 60 rebar
Grade 60 rebar have much more application than grade 40 rebar:- Grade 60 rebar is the most widely used rebar grade in modern United states construction. Grade 60 steel is the most commonly used in structures and concrete, as it’s not substantially more expensive than grade 40 steel, but offers much more strength. Grade 40 steel is often used for things that do not require substantial structural strength. And grade 60 have much more application than grade 40 rebar.
Minimum Yeild strength of grade 60 rebar is more than grade 40 rebar:- minimum yield strength of grade 60 rebar is about 60ksi which is equal to 60000psi (pounds square inches) equivalent to 420 grade of rebar in metric system, similar to 420MPa or 420N/mm2 as minimum yield strength, however minimum yield strength of grade 40 rebar is about 40ksi which is equal to 40000psi (pounds square inches) equivalent to 280 grade of rebar in metric system, similar to 280MPa or 280N/mm2 as minimum yield strength.
Minimum ultimate tensile strength of grade 60 rebar is more than grade 40 rebar:- As ASTM A 615, minimum ultimate tensile strength of grade 60 is about 90000psi or 90ksi, however, minimum ultimate tensile strength of grade 40 is about 60000psi or 60ksi.

Grade 60 rebar is stronger than grade 40 rebar:- Due to high ultimate tensile strength and yield strength in grade 60 rebar than 40, grade 60 rebar is stronger than grade 40 rebar.
Grade 40 rebar bend easily than grade 60 rebar:- Grade 40 rebar bend easily than grade 60 rebar upto 180° while testing.
Ductility of grade 40 rebar is more than grade 60 rebar:- Ductility is the property of steel reinforcement, it is ability to drawn or plastically deformed without fracture, grade 40 rebar is highly ductile in nature than grade 60 rebar.
Percentage of carbon is more in grade 60 rebar than grade 40 rebar.
