How much putty is needed for a 10’×12′ & 10’×10′ Room | how much area is covered by 1 kg of wall putty | standard coverage of wall putty | how much putty required for 1000 sq ft | how much putty required for 2000 sq ft
Depending on nature wall care putty is two types water base and plaster base. In India generally water based putty is applied on wall and ceiling when plastering is completed and it is done on paintable area of a building.
Wall Care Putty is a white cement-based, water-resistant, white wall putty that ensures a strong binding with building surfaces, a smooth finish, extensive coverage, superior refractive index, and paint-friendliness. Its unique formula which keep the moisture away and also avoid flaking. So, you are assured of aesthetic interiors for your dream home for years to come.
Most important factors to calculate the requirement of wall putty is surface of plastered walls, surface smoothness, water quantity added during mixing, application labour skill and number of coat applied. If the plastered wall has very rough finish, you might be needed to do 3 coats of Wall Putty for perfect wall finish and for smooth surface you need to applied 2 coat of wall putty.
Standard coverage of wall putty
The standard coverage of wall putty in 2 coats is about 14 to 16 square feet per kg for smooth plastered wall and ceiling and in 3 coat 1kg of wall putty covered around 8 to 12 square feet of area. Their coverage depending on surface smoothness, water quantity added during mixing, application, labour skill and number of coat applied.
How much area is covered by 1 kg of wall putty?
As per application & labour skill, 1 kg of wall putty gives 14 to 16 sq ft coverage in two coats & 8 to 12 square feet coverage in 3 coats, under standard conditions. It might be little very as per manufacturer guideline and wall putty coverage which will goes up to 20 square feet per kg in 2 coats.
How much putty is needed for a 10’×12′ room
Calculation of estimation of wall putty is done in two steps:- 1) count the area of all the wall and ceiling of room and 2) divide the area by 15 (1 kg coverage) to figure out quantity of wall putty required for room.
In 10’×12′ room, suppose height of ceiling is is around 10 feet, calculate perimeter such as 2(10+12) = 44 feet, Area of room = area of wall + area of ceiling, area = (44’×10′)+(10’×12′) = 560 sq ft, if putty is applied on only interior face of room then your paintable area is 560 sq ft, divide it by 15 such as 560 ÷15 = 37.3 kg, add wastage and convert this figure in ten you get 40kg. Thus 40 kg of wall putty is required for a 10’×12′ room.
Typically, an average, 40 kg of wall putty is needed for a 10’×12′ room. In general a 10’×12′ room requires an average of 40kg of wall putty when 2 coats putty has been applied to the wall and ceiling under standard conditions.
Calculation of estimation of wall putty such as 1) paintable area = 2(10+12) ×10 + (10’×12′) = 560 sq ft and 2) wall putty quantity = 560 ÷ 15 = 37.3 kg + wastage = approx 40 kg. Thus 40 kg of wall putty is required for a 10’×12′ room.

How much putty required for 1000 sq ft? The typical amount of wall putty required for 1000 sq ft is about 2 40kg bags (I.e. total 80 kg) of putty. Wall putty coverage is about 14 sq ft per kg for two coats. So quantity of putty required for 1000 square feet area is 1000/14 = 72 kg, or in bags 72/40 = approx 2 40kg bags.
How much putty required for 3000 sq ft? The typical amount of wall putty required for 2000 sq ft is about 4 40kg bags (I.e. total 160 kg) of putty. Wall putty coverage is about 14 sq ft per kg for two coats. So quantity of putty required for 2000 square feet area is 2000/14 = 144 kg, or in bags 144/40 = approx 4 40kg bags.
How much putty is needed for a 10’×10′ room
In 10’×10′ room, suppose height of ceiling is is around 10 feet, calculate perimeter such as 2(10+10) = 40 feet, Area of room = area of wall + area of ceiling, area = (40’×10′)+(10’×10′) = 500 sq ft, if putty is applied on only interior face of room then your paintable area is 500 sq ft, divide it by 15 such as 500 ÷15 = 33.3 kg, add wastage and you get approx 35kg. Thus 35 kg of wall putty is required for a 10’×10′ room.
