DPC full form in construction and waterproofing

DPC full form in construction and what is damp proof course (DPC) and waterproofing,hi guys in this article we know about damp proof course (DPC) meaning, uses, definition, functions and waterproofing. And also know about DPC full form in civil engineering.

DPC full form in construction and waterproofing

Full form of dpc in construction is damp proof course and what is dpc full form in civil engineering?, dpc full form in civil engineering is damp proof course.

Question is asked like dpc ka full form, DPC full form in Hindi (डी पी सी का फुल फॉर्म) is (डैम्प प्रूफ कोर्स) and DPC ka full form in English is damp proof course.

Meaning of DPC :- it is damp proof layer of waterproof material used in the Wall of building near the ground to prevent from rising damp.

DPC history :- the term dpc emerged during the Victorian era and are commonly found in building construction from around 19 century. Damp proofing or damp proof in construction is type of moisture control application applied to building wall and floor to prevent from passing into the interior space.dampness problem are looking so unnatural , its fade the interior and exterior designing of your building and degrees it’s life.

What is damp proof course & DPC ka full form

Question is asked like dpc ka full form, DPC full form in Hindi (डी पी सी का फुल फॉर्म) is (डैम्प प्रूफ कोर्स) and DPC ka full form in English is damp proof course.

DPC ka full form is damp proof course,it is a layer of water proof material in the wall of building near the ground to prevent rising damp. Damp proof course (dpc) is generally applied at the basement level of ground and plinth which restrict the movement of moisture through the wall and floors.

dpc act as barrier through the structure designed to prevent Water Rising by the capillary action such phenomenon known as rising damp. the DPC layer is generally laid below all masonry wall.

Damp proofing is Defined by American Society for testing and material (ASTM) as the material that resist the passage of water. Rising damp is caused by capillary action drawing moisture up through the porous element of building structure like brick wall. Rising damp or the presence of penetrating damp can be caused by absent of damp proof course (DPC) or (damp proof membrane DPM)

Thickness of damp proof coarse (dpc)

Generally DPC layer is provided at ground level of structure like building ,Dam ,Bridge water sewage plant ,water treatment plant and etc, in building construction dpc is generally provided at the height of 400 mm maximum upto level of flooring or top of plinth. Thickness of DPC layer is about 40 mm to 50 mm if cement concrete mortar is used as DPC layer which is mixed with some additive material and applying two coat of thin layer of hot bitumen.

Damp proof course (dpc) material

DPC waterproofing material is broadly classified into following category according to their use flexibility and rigidity

1) flexible material :- flexible material content butyl rubber, hot bitumen commonly known as Asphalt ,plastic sheets like polyethene, bituminous felts, sheets of Lead etc

2) semi- rigid material :- mastic asphalt

3) Rigid material :- 1st class brick , slate, cement mortar waterproofing compound, stone

Properties of material for DPC

Effective damp proofing material should have the following properties

1) damp proof material should be free from deliquescent salt like sulphate nitrate and chloride.

2) it should be impervious

3) damp proofing material should be strong and durable and should be capable of withstanding both dead and live load of a structure without damage

4) damp proofing material should be dimensionally stable

Types of damp proofing course (dpc)

According to their use and function damp proofing course is broadly classified into three categories

1) DPC

2) DPM

3) integral damp proofing

1) dpc :- it is a barrier through the structure designed to protect moisture rising by the capillary action such as through of phenomenon known as rising damp.the DPC layer is usually laid below all masonry wall commonly hot bitumen used as dpc known as Asphalt.

2) DPM :- damp proof membrane material like polyethene plastic sheet applied to prevent moisture transmission.

3) integral damp proofing :- involves use of some extra additive material to the concrete mix to make the concrete material itself impermeable to water.

What is Waterproofing

Waterproofing is the process of making structure like building, dams, Bridge ,water treatment plant, water sewage treatment plant waterproof or water resistant so that it remain relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified condition like heavy rain.

Today waterproofing of residential and commercial building is important and necessary work.waterproofing can be done in all structure member of building like roof slab, exterior wall ,interior wall ,flooring and masonry wall.

so waterproofing in building is the formation of impervious barrier over surface of foundation, roof, wall and other structural member of building to prevent water penetration through these surfaces. buildings surfaces are made water resistance and sometime waterproof.

Methods of waterproofing

Use and function of waterproofing Chemicals and material waterproofing is broadly classified into five categories. There are various type of waterproofing chemicals is available in market today like Dr. fixit Pidilite ,master seal containing polyurethane membrane and krytonite and some other waterproofing chemicalsis used as bathroom waterproofing Chemicals ,roof water chemical ,water tank and waterproofing chemical for external plaster.like master seal is used as waterproofing chemical for roof and sealing of water tank, doctor fixit of Pidilite is used as waterproofing chemical for bathroom ,toilets and external plaster.

cementitious water proofing

Cement waterproofing is cement based chemical like white cement or putty mix with some admixture material used for waterproofing in internal wet area like toilet bathroom ,in water treatment plant ,sewage treatment plant ,bridges tunnels and Dam

Liquid water proofing

Liquid waterproofing chemicals is based on different types of primer ,paint and putty material that’s are provided in thin coating one coat of primer and two coat of paint which is handle by sprayer machine and roller

Bituminous membrane

Bituminous membrane like bituminous felt is thin sheet used as waterproofing in low sloped roof and it is provided in slope part of roof

4) bituminous coating

Hot bitumen commonly known as Asphalt used as waterproofing in ground level like plinth to protect from moisture a thin layer of two coat of hot between is provided at the plinth level to protect from moisture of masonry wall. Bitumen coating is not provided in expose part of building structure like exterior wall and roof because it is not comfortable in sunshine.

5) polyurethane

This chemical is expensive but it provides and enhance the waterproofing strength so it will be used in waterproofing chemical for top of flat roof or exposed part of building structure and it has more resistance to weather condition.
