How much drywall panel do i need?, To calculate how much drywall panels or sheets do you need, you simply dividing the total square footage of project by 32 (if you’re using 4×8 sheets) or by 40 (if you’re using 4×10 sheets), or by 48 (if you’re using 4×12 sheets).

To calculate drywall square footage, multiply the width and the height of each wall and ceiling area, then add together to get a total square footage amount for drywall. To figure the area of each wall multiply the width times height and to figure area of ceiling multiply Length and Width.

To calculate area of drywall sheets/ panels or board, multiply width and height. For example, A 4×8 or 4 by 8 foot drywall panels has an area of i.e 4’×8′ = 32 square feet, or A 4×10 or 4 by 10 foot drywall panels has an area of i.e 4’×10′ = 40 square feet, and A 4×12 or 4 by 12 foot drywall panels has an area of i.e 4’×12′ = 48 square feet.

For example, if your ceiling and walls area of room is 1000 square feet, divide 1000 square footage by 32 to get required number of 4×8 sheets of drywall i.e 1000/ 32 = 31.25 sheets (in whole 32 sheets, add 10% for waste, i.e 32 + 3 = 35 sheets, thus, you would need 35 pieces of 4×8 sheets drywall for 1000 square feet.

Formula for drywall square footage = Area of all four walls in square feet + Ceiling area – (Area of door, window and ventilation). Area of wall is calculated by multiplying its width and height and ceiling area is length times width. Subtracting area of door 7×3 = 21 sq ft, window 3×4 = 12 sq ft, and ventilation 1×1 = 1 sq ft, total of 34 square footage.
