How much drywall do i need for 1000 square feet house | how many sheets of drywall do i need for 1000 sq ft house | figure the amount of drywall for 1000 sq ft house | estimate the drywall for 1000 sq ft house.

In US, Canada, UK and many European countries of cold region, construction of wooden frame house is most popular. In wooden frame house construction one of the most important finishing material used is drywall construction to face the interior walls of dwellings and other buildings. Others materials used are Wall studs, joist, rafter, header, bottom plate, top plate, siding and roof. Drywall construction is the application of wall without the use of cement mortar or rendering.

Drywall is also called as gypsum board, plasterboard, dry lining, wallboard, sheet rock, buster board, custard board, and gypsum panel which is made from gypsum panel sheets of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with or without additives, comes in large rigid sheets used in the construction of interior wall.

Drywall is a construction material used to create finishing of walls and ceilings. It replace the use of cement, mortar and bricks. It is sound proof, corrosion resistant, durable, fire free gypsum panel sheet. It is also used to create many design features, including eaves, arches and other architectural specialties. It’s quick and easy to install, incredibly durable, and requires only simple repairs when damaged.

In this article article we know about how much drywall do i need for 1000 square feet house
There are many size of drywall comes like 4 ft by 8 ft (4×8), 4 ft by 10 ft (4×10), 4 ft by 12 ft (4×12), 4 ft by 14 ft (4×14), or 4 ft by 16 ft (4×16). You can calculate drywall square footage by multiplying its length and width.

How much drywall do i need for 1000 square feet house?, this is hypothetical question, without knowing the design, number of room, interior, exterior wall or partition wall, edges or eves and how you can estimate drywall for 1000 sq ft house. In this article we describes calculation of amount of drywall necessary for 1000 sq ft house on thumb rule basis.

Drywall comes in many vary thickness and sizes for different projects. It is generally 4 feet (48″) wide and 8, 10, 12, 14, or 16 feet long. Their thickness are, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, or 5/8″. But standard and most common size of drywall is 4 feet wide and 8 feet in length of 1/2″ thick used for majority of residential building.

1/4″ thick drywall is ideal for creating curved wall or creating new surfaces over plaster. It is economical option for you. 3/8″ thickness of drywall is perfect for remodeling of partition wall and this can be also used for where the plaster has worn off. 1/2″ thickness of drywall is standard thickness to create walls and ceiling. 5/8″ thickness of drywall used for commercial application where soundproofing is necessary, it is also refers as firewall drywall.

How much drywall do i need for 1000 square feet house

The best way to get accurate amount of drywall is to measure the total square footage of house containing area of all exterior walls, interior walls, or partition walls, ceiling area and area of edges and eves on design basis. But here we explain about thumb rule, it is not accurate sometimes, but gives approximation.

To calculate the square footage of a 1000 square foot house, multiply the 1000 sq ft by thumb rule factor i.e 3.5, so, approximate square footage for drywall = 1000 × 3.5 = 3,500 square feet, if it has more walls and ceiling it is best to take multiplication factor 4, if its more open, you can use 3.25. Add 10% for cutting and waste. Always better and cheaper to have to many sheets/ panels of drywall than too little.

To calculate how much drywall panels or sheets/boards do you need for 1000 square feet house, you simply dividing the total square footage of project i.e 3,500 sq ft by 32 (if you’re using 4×8 sheets) or by 48 (if you’re using 4×12 sheets), or by 40 (if you’re using 4×10 sheets). Such that 3,500 ÷ 32 = 109.375 sheets (110 whole sheets, add 10% of 110, i.e. 110 + 11 = 121 sheets or 3,500 ÷ 48 = 72.91 sheets (73 whole sheets, add 10% of 72, i.e. 73 + 7 = 80 sheets or 3,500 ÷ 40 = 87.5 sheets (88 whole sheets, add 10% of 88, i.e. 88 + 9 = 97 sheets.

As per thumb rule and approximation, for 1000 square feet house construction, you would need 121 sheets/ panels or boards of drywall if you’re using 4×8 sheets, 80 sheets of drywall when you are using 4×12 sheets, or 97 sheets of drywall if you’re using 4×10 sheets. The best way to get an accurate count is to always measure the square footage of house.

How much drywall do i need for 1000 square feet

In UK, and US drywall is typically 8’×4′ = 32 square feet, so for 1000 square feet area of walls and ceiling you need 1000/ 32 = 31.25 sheets (32 whole sheets). In practice you waste some in cutting, so add 10% extra i.e 10% of 32 = 3, add all = 32+3 = 35 sheets. Thus, you would need atleast 35 sheets of drywall of 1/2″ thickness for 1000 square feet area of walls and ceiling if you’re using 4×8 sheets.

How many sheets of drywall do I need for 1000 square feet house

You would need either 121 pieces of 4×8, or 80 pieces of 4×12, or 97 pieces of 4×10 sheets/ panels/ board of drywall for construction of 1000 square feet house to construct all walls and ceiling.

How many 4×8 sheets of drywall do I need for 1000 square feet house

To calculate number of 4×8 sheets of drywall you would need for 1000 square feet house, divide 3,500 sq ft by 32, i.e. 3,500 ÷ 32 = 109.4 sheets (110 whole sheets), add 10% of 110, i.e. 110 + 11 = 121 sheets. This is total amount of 4 by 8 sheets required for construction of 1000 square footage of walls and ceiling area.

How many 4×10 sheets of drywall do I need for 1000 square feet house

To calculate number of 4×10 sheets of drywall you would need for 1000 square feet house, divide 3500 sq ft by 40, i.e. 3500 ÷ 40 = 87.5 sheets (in whole 88 sheets), add 10% of 88, i.e. 88 + 9 = 97 sheets. This is total amount of 4 by 10 sheets required for construction of 1000 square footage of walls and ceiling area.

How many 4×12 sheets of drywall do I need for 1000 square feet house

To calculate number of 4×12 sheets of drywall you would need for 1000 square feet house, divide 3,500 sq ft by 48, i.e. 3,500 ÷ 48 = 72.92 sheets (73 whole sheets), add 10% of 73, i.e. 73 + 7 = 80 sheets. This is total amount of 4 by 12 sheets required for construction of 1000 square footage of walls and ceiling area.

How much does it cost to drywall a 1000 square foot house

The average cost to drywall a 1000 sq. ft house is $8,750. The typical cost to install to drywall for 1000 square feet house to construct walls and ceiling ranges between $5,250 to $12,250, and on average $8,750. This cost includes labour and materials cost.

The typical installation cost for drywall ranges between $1.5 to $3.5 per square foot, a 1000 sq ft house has 3,500 sq ft area as per thumb rule, so, it would cost to install to drywall for 1000 sq ft house is range between $1.5×3,500 = $5,250 or $3.5× 3,500 = $12,250, and $8,750 on average.
