How much steel required for 1000 sq ft house

How much steel required for 1000 sq ft house, hi guys in this article we know about quantity of steel is required for 1000 square feet house. Actual Steel calculation is based on as per design but if design is not given then Steel calculation is based on Thumb Rule on experience basis & how much Steel used in 1000 square feet house.

💐—- WATCH THIS VIDEO—💐

How much is steel required for 1000 sq ft house is based on different type of criteria

1) type of structure (Load Bearing/Framed)

2) Purpose of structure (Load depends on the utility)

3) Type of dia of Bar

4) Size height of column and length of beam (in terms of height, as requirement varies according to construction i.e. whether horizontal or vertical. )

5) Most important is foundation type(depends on soil bearing conditions)

For general residential low rise building of ground floor house we have to calculate Steel quantity. We use different types of Thumb Rule for steel calculation all type of RCC structure footing, column, beam & RCC slab.

Now taking various Thumb Rule for Steel quantity calculation for 1000 square feet house

1) thumb rule for steel in rcc slab is 80 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

2) thumb rule for steel in beam is 120 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

3) thumb rule for steel in column is 160 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

4) thumb rule for steel in footing is 40 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

5) thumb rule for steel in rcc structure is 120 kg/cubic meter of all calculated wet volume of concrete.

6) thumb rule for steel in rcc structure is 3.5 Kg to 4 kg/ sq ft of built up area.

If we take last thumb rule point (6), thumb rule for steel in rcc structure is 3.5 Kg to 4 kg/ sq ft of built up area.

If built area is 2000 sq ft house we require steel quantity

= 3.5 × 2000 = 7000 Kg

= 4 × 2000 = 8000 kg

7000 Kg to 8000 Kg of Steel quantity is required for construction of 2000 square feet house.

If built area is 1200 sq ft house, we require steel quantity

= 3.5 × 1200 = 4200 Kg

= 4 × 1200 = 4800 kg

4200 Kg to 4800 Kg of Steel quantity is required for construction of 1200 square feet house.

How much steel required for 1000 square feet house ?

For the construction of residential building of ground floor we have RCC structure like footing, column, beam and slab. Taking one rough design of 1000 square feet house having different dimension of rcc structure like footing, column, beam and slab are following:

1) footing size = 1500 mm × 1500mm × 300 mm

Length of footing = 1500 mm

Width of footing = 1500 mm

Height of footing = 300 mm

Depth of earth exacavation = 1500 mm

Concrete size in footing = 1200mm×1200mm×300mm

No of footing = 12

Wet volume of concrete in all 12 no of footing = 1.2 m × 1.2 m × 0.3 m × 12 = 5.184 m3

thumb rule for steel in footing is 40 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

Steel quantity = 5.184 × 40 = 207 Kg

207 Kg of Steel required in footing RCC structure of 1000 square feet of house

2) column size = 300 mm × 400 mm

No of column = 12

Height above dpc = 3000 mm

Height above rcc slab = 900 mm

Depth of earth exacavation = 1500 mm

Total height of column = 5400 mm

Wet volume of concrete for all 12 column

= 0.3 × 0.4× 5.4 × 12 = 7.776 m3

thumb rule for steel in column is 160 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

Steel quantity = 7.776 × 160 = 1244 kg

1244 Kg of Steel required in column RCC structure of 1000 square feet of house.

3) plinth beam size = 300mm × 300 mm

Width of beam = 300 mm

Depth of beam = 300 mm

Overall length of all beam = 220 ft = 66000 mm

Wet volume of concrete = 0.3 × 0.3 × 66 = 5.94 m3

thumb rule for steel in beam is 120 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

Steel quantity = 5.94 × 120 = 713 kg

713 Kg of Steel required in plinth beam RCC structure of 1000 square feet of house.

4) door beam size for external wall = 225mm × 150 mm

Overall length for external beam = 130 ft = 39000 mm

Steel = 0.225 × 0.15 × 39 × 120 = 158 Kg

Door beam size for internal wall = 125 mm × 150 mm

Overall length for internal beam = 90 ft = 27000 mm

Steel = 0.125 × 0.15 × 27 × 120 = 61 Kg

Steel for door beam = 158 + 61 = 219 kg

219 Kg of Steel required in door beam of 1000 square feet of house

5) roof wall beam size for external wall = 225 mm × 200 mm

Overall length for external beam = 130 ft = 39000 mm

Steel = 0.225 × 0.2 × 39 × 120 = 211 Kg

Roof wall beam size for internal wall = 125 mm × 200 mm

Overall length for internal wall beam = 90 ft = 27000 mm

Steel = 0.125 × 0.2 × 27 × 120 = 81 Kg

Steel for roof beam = 211 + 81 = 292 kg

292 Kg of Steel required in roof wall beam of 1000 square feet of house

6) rcc roof slab = 40′ × 25’×6″

Length of slab = 40 feet

Width of slab = 25 feet

Thickness of slab = 6 inch = 0.5 feet

Volume = 40′ × 25’× 0.5′ = 500 cubic feet

1 m3 = 35.3147 cu ft

Volume = 500/35.3147 = 14.158 m3

thumb rule for steel in rcc slab is 80 kg/cubic meter of wet volume of concrete

Steel = 14.158 × 80 = 1133 Kg

1133 Kg of Steel required in rcc roof slab of 1000 square feet of house

Now Total weight of Steel required for 1000 square feet house

Footing = 207 kg

Column = 1244 kg

Plinth beam = 713 kg

Door beam = 219 kg

Roof beam = 292 kg

Roof slab = 1133 kg

Total weight of steel = 3808 Kg

3808 Kg of steel ( 207 kg in footing, 1244 kg in column, 713 kg in plinth beam, 219 kg in door beam, 292 kg in roof beam & 1133 Kg in rcc roof slab) are required for construction of 1000 square feet house of low rise residential building of ground floor.

    Thanks for pointing out that the load that should be able to be sustained by a structure should be determined by its intended purpose. I’m currently looking into steel suppliers in my area because I’d like to have a new house built soon. That way, I can expect what sort of budget will be needed for the construction.
