How to calculate sand quantity in 1m3 of concrete

How to calculate sand quantity in 1m3 of concrete | how to find sand quantity in concrete

Concrete is mixture of cement sand aggregate and water in a required proportion. Dry ingredient of cement sand and aggregate properly mixed by shovels then poured water to mix it then make suitable paste of concrete for casting of different structure such as column, beam and slab. Concrete work good in compression and weak in tension so reinforcement is provided in concrete to increase their tensile strength.

Sand is one of the important ingredient of concrete, it fill the voids present in the mix and provide required strength to concrete. In this article we know about how to calculate sand quantity in concrete. As you know that there is several grade and mix ratio for concrete such as 1:2:3 (1 part cement to 2 parts sand to 3 parts aggregate mix for 3000 psi concrete), 1:2:4 (1 part cement to 2 parts sand to 4 parts aggregate mix for M15 concrete), 1:3:6 (1 part cement to 3 parts sand to 6 parts aggregate mix for M10 concrete), 1:1.5:3 (1 part cement to 1.5 parts sand to 3 parts aggregate mix for M20 concrete) & 1:1:2 (1 part cement to 1 parts sand to 2 parts aggregate mix for M25 concrete).

Calculate the proportion of sand quantity in different mix, for M25 (1:1:2 mix), total proportion is 1+1+2 = 4, so parts of sand in M25 concrete = 1/4, for M20 (1:1.5:3 mix), total proportion is 1+1.5+3 = 5.5, so parts of sand in M20 concrete = 1.5/5.5, for M15 (1:2:4 mix), total proportion is 1+2+4 = 7, so parts of sand in M15 concrete = 2/7, for M10 (1:3:6 mix), total proportion is 1+3+6 = 10, so parts of sand in M10 concrete = 3/10 & for 1:2:3 mix), total proportion is 1+2+3 = 6, so parts of sand in 3000 psi concrete = 2/6.

How to calculate sand quantity in 1m3 of concrete

If you want to produce 1 cubic metre of concrete you have to need to mix 1.54 m3 of dry ingredient of concrete such as cement, sand (fine aggregate) & coarse aggregate addition to water. This is known as dry volume of concrete. Assume density of sand is 1600 kg/m3.

The quantities of sand for 1m3 of concrete production can be calculated as follows:-

● weight of sand for 1:2:3 mix = 1.54m3 × 2/6 × 1600 kg/m3 = 820 kg, which is approximately equal as 18 cft, or 0.5 cubic meter or 1 loose ton bag of sand quantities. Thus you need 820kg or 18 cft of sand quantity to prepare 1 cubic metre of 3000 psi concrete.

● weight of sand for M10 concrete = 1.54m3 × 3/10 × 1600 kg/m3 = 740 kg, which is approximately equal as 16 cft, or 0.45 cubic meter of sand quantities. Thus you need 740kg or 16 cft of sand quantity to prepare 1 cubic metre of M10 concrete.

● weight of sand for M15 concrete = 1.54m3 × 2/7 × 1600 kg/m3 = 700 kg, which is approximately equal as 15 cft, or 0.44 cubic meter of sand quantities. Thus you need 700kg or 15 cft of sand quantity to prepare 1 cubic metre of M15 concrete.

● weight of sand for M20 concrete = 1.54m3 × 1.5/5.5 × 1600 kg/m3 = 672 kg, which is approximately equal as 15 cft, or 0.44 cubic meter of sand quantities. Thus you need 672kg or 15 cft of sand quantity to prepare 1 cubic metre of M20 concrete.

● weight of sand for M25 concrete = 1.54m3 × 1/4 × 1600 kg/m3 = 616 kg, which is approximately equal as 13.5 cft, or 0.38 cubic meter of sand quantities. Thus you need 616kg or 13.5 cft of sand quantity to prepare 1 cubic metre of M25 concrete.
