People might be in confusion what type of iron rod size is best for using in RCC structural member like footing, column, beam and slab of your residential and commercial building. In this article we talk about use of different size of iron rod in different RCC structure for 3 storey (G+2) building.

Sizes of iron rod used in different RCC member are determined on the basis of architectural drawing & designing for 3 storey (G+2) building or simply ground floor building. If you want to design for residential building structure and where the height of building is not more than 9.5 m and spacing of columns are 4m to 5m, not more than 5m, you can do it, but it seems little bit smaller section.

When we draw design for rcc structure for residential 3 storey (G+2) building you have to also check the, live load, soil type, dead load, vertical load, horizontal load, slenderness ratio, deflection of beam etc. as per I.S. Code guidelines.

Iron rod size for 3 storey (G+2) building:- According to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls,we should use iron rod size of 16mm as mesh bar for footing, 4nos of 16mm size used for column, 4nos of 16mm size used for beam and 10mm & 8mm iron rod size used for rcc roof slab casting.

Iron rod size for 3 storey (G+2) building:- According to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls,we should use iron rod size of 16mm as mesh bar for footing, 4nos of 16mm at corner & 2 nos of 12mm size at center used for column, 4nos of 16mm size used for beam and 10mm & 8mm iron rod size used for rcc roof slab casting.

Iron rod size of footing for 3 storey (G+3) building:- For footing of 3 storey building (G+2) according to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls, size of footing depth should be minimum 6 to 7 feet, using iron rod size T16@6″C/C of Fe 550 used with m20 grade of concrete and clear cover 50mm or 2 inch.

Iron rod size of column for 3 storey (G+2) building:- For column of 3 storey building (G+2) according to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls, size of column should be minimum 10″×16″,using 4nos of iron rod size T16 at corner & 2nos of 12mm size at center of Fe 500 used with m20 grade of concrete with stirrups of T8@6″C/C and clear cover 35mm.

Iron rod size of plinth beam for 3 storey (G+2) building:– For plinth beam of 3 storey building (G+2) according to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls, size of plinth beam should be minimum 9″×12″,using 2nos of iron rod size T16 to top and 2nos of iron rod size T16 in bottom of Fe 500 used with m20 grade of concrete with stirrups of T8@6″C/C with clear cover 35mm.

Iron rod size of floor beam for 3 storey (G+2) building:- For wall beam of 3 storey building (G+2) according to general thumb rule, we will assume a structure of G+2 (3 storey) residential building, using standard 9″ thick walls, size of wall beam should be minimum 9″×12″,using 2nos of iron rod size T16 to top and 2nos of iron rod size T16 in bottom of Fe 550 used with m20 grade of concrete with stirrups of T8@6″C/C with clear cover 35mm.
