Steel column size for 5m, 6m, 8m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 20m, 25m & 30m span. The size of a steel column required for a specific span depends on various factors, including the type of load it needs to support, the material properties of the steel, and the safety requirements.

There is different shape and size of hot rolled Steel section such as H beam (universal column), I beam (universal beam), angles, channels and etc are used in construction project such as field of agriculture construction, industrial construction, multi storey building, different factories and residential projects. Today is the demand of steel structure in the field of construction projects that replace the depending on reinforced cement concrete, their higher strength, less time consuming, make it ideal for residential project in short duration.

Universal column are also known as Steel column or UC’s or H beam due to their shape. Steel columns are very versatile and can be used in various structural Steel construction project. It is consist of two horizontal plates known as flanges connected by vertical component known as web. Generally depth of Universal column is equal as their width which makes them suitable for column application where strength needs to be similar in both of direction. Which is the most often used section for structural Steel purpose.

Steel column also known as Lintel, Girders, RSJ beam, Rolled steel sections, H beam, H- iron, W beam, steel column and UC’s. It is essential for any major support or structural integrity in building construction. Typical Universal column have less depth than universal beam, making them ideal for use in residential projects, agricultural and Industrial and other projects where height is limited.

Steel column or universal column are extremely effective for use as structural Steel. they provide the maximum amount of strength for the volume of Steel used in making them the most efficient method of carrying bending and shear loads. In this artical you know about Steel column size for 5m, 6m, 8m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 20m, 25m and 30m span according to Thumb Rule and experience basis.

Steel column sizes

Generally, Steel column sizes in mm are 152 × 152mm, 203 × 203mm, 254 × 254mm, 305 × 305mm, 356 × 368mm, 356 × 406mm. I or H columns, universal steel columns are used in residential and commercial buildings. If you have a height limitation, these beams are ideal because of their small depth.

Universal columns are essential for any major support or structural integrity in building construction. Rsj or universal columns are very popular in the building trade used mainly for steel lintels.

Steel column sizes in inches are 6″ × 6″ (150UC), 8″ × 8″ (200UC), 10″ × 10″ (250UC), 12″ × 12″ (300UC), 14″ × 14″ (350UC), 16″ × 16″ (40UC). Universal Columns Otherwise known as Lintels, Girders, RSJ, RSJ beam, Rolled Steel sections, H Beams, H irons, W beams, steel column and UC’s.

Round steel column sizes of hollow pipe are come in diameter of 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, 2″, 2 1/2″, 3″, 3 1/2″, 4″, 5″, 6″, 8″, 10″ and 12″ thickness.

Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) are manufactured hollow steel sections, typically of circular, rectangular, or square cross-section. In the United States, HSS sections conform to either the ASTM Specification A500 or A1085.

Steel column size depend on various factors, how high is the column?, what is the dead and live load, grade of Steel used, span between the two column, size of beam and others factors. Generally 150UC (6×6), 200UC (8×8), 250UC (10×10), 300UC (12×12), 350UC (14×14) and 400UC (16×16) steel column are used in construction industries. Generally Steel column size represented as depth × wide × weight per unit length, measured in mm or inch such as size of steel column 150UC represented as 152 × 152 × 23 or 6″×6″, where 152mm is depth of steel column, 152mm is their width and 23 represent weight per unit length or kg/m.

Steel column size for 5m, 6m, 8m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 20m, 25m & 30m span

A steel column size depending on the span between the column and area of floor it is supporting, this area is calculated by dividing the distance between the column and all the adjacent column. And also this area is added from floor to floor for multi-storey. A 150UC or 6″×6″ size steel column can support 750 sq ft or 70 square meter of area and span upto 8m or 25 feet. A 200UC or 8″×8″ size steel column can support 3000 sq ft or 280 square meter of area and span upto 16m or 50 feet. A 300UC or 12″×12″ size steel column can support 6000 sq ft or 555 square meter of area and span upto 20m or 75 feet for light load structure. Each additional 2 inches can add 1500 square feet of supported area. A 350UC or 14″×14″ size steel column can support 7500 sq ft or 700 square meter of area and span upto 25m or 85 feet for light load structure. A 400UC or 16″×16″ size steel column can support 9000 sq ft or 840 square meter of area and span upto 30m or 100 feet for light load structure.
