The unit weight of reinforcing bar, or rebar, varies based on its diameter. As a general guide, the unit weight is approximately 7.85 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³), 490 pounds per cubic foot (lb/ft³) or 7850 kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³).
US based steel/ reinforcing bar sizes and their unit weight, as we know that different countries in the world have their own gradation, specification of Steel and record of measurement for reinforcing bar. First remember that rebar is measured differentially in United States and Europe. while the United states, it uses the Imperial measurement system. Europe and most of rest of world uses the metric system.

In this article we briefly explain unit weight of rebar/ Reinforcing bar in different unit like kg/m3, kg/ft, lb/ft3, kg/ft and lb/ft based on imperial measurement system. This will help to viewers in better understanding and it is easy to choose the most suitable rebar you wanted according to requirement.
Rebar is short form of reinforcing bar, it is steel bar or Steel wire provided as tension bar, used in reinforced concrete structure like column, beam and slab of house construction and it also used in reinforced masonry structure. It is used to increase the tensile strength of concrete structure.
Reinforcing bar/rebar surface is often deformed with ribs to promote a better bonding with concrete material and reduce the risk of slippage. The most common Reinforcing bar/rebar is carbon steel of hot rolled round bar with the deformation patterns, the Steel rebar may be also coated with epoxy resin material, design to resist effect of corrosion mostly in saltwater environment.
Unit weight of rebar/ reinforcing bar
The specific weight also known as Unit Weight, it is physical quantity similar to density defined as weight per unit volume or length. Generally, Unit Weight of rebar is about 7850 kg/m3, when it is measured in pounds per cubic foot, then it will be 490 lb/ft3.
Unit weight of rebar in kg/ft
Unit weight of rebar is defined as mass per unit length, if weight reinforcing bar/ rebar measured in Kilogram per foot known as Unit weight of rebar in kg/ft.
Unit Weight of 8mm rebar is 0.12kg/foot, for 10mm or number 3 (#3) rebar, it could be 0.1876kg/foot, for 12mm or number (#4) rebar, it could be 0.27kg/ft, for 16mm or number 5 (#5) rebar, it could be 0.48kg/ft, for 20mm or number 6 (#6) rebar, it could be 0.75kg/ foot, for 22mm or number 7 (#7) rebar, it could be 0.90kg/ ft, for 25mm or number 8 (#8) rebar, it could be 1.173kg/ foot, for 28mm or number 9 (#9) rebar, it could be 1.47kg/ foot, for 32mm or number 10 (#10) rebar, it could be 1.92kg/ foot and unit weight for 36mm or number 11 (#11) rebar, it could be 2.43 kg/foot.
Unit weight of rebar in lb/ft
Unit weight of rebar is defined as mass per unit length, if weight reinforcing bar/ rebar measured in pounds per foot known as Unit weight of rebar in lb/ft.
Unit Weight of 8mm rebar is 0.265lb/foot, for 10mm rebar, it could be 0.376lb/foot, for 12mm rebar, it could be 0.668lb/ft, for 16mm rebar, it could be 1.043lb/ft, for 20mm rebar, it could be 1.502lb/ foot, for 22mm rebar, it could be 2.044lb/ ft, for 25mm rebar, it could be 2.67lb/ foot, for 28mm rebar, it could be 3.40lb/ foot, for 32mm rebar, it could be 4.303lb/ foot and unit weight for 36mm rebar, it could be 5.313lb/foot.
