4.5 inch brick wall calculation for brickwork

Brickwork is masonry work produced by a bricklayer, using bricks and mortar ( mixture of cement and sand in fix ratio). Generally cement mortar ratio 1:6 is used for 9 inch & 13.5 inch brickwork and cement sand ratio 1:4 or 1:5 is used for 4.5 inch or 4 inch thick brick wall. Typically, rows of bricks called courses are laid on top of one another to build up a brick wall structure.

Brick calculation in 4.5 inch thick brick wall we have known about types of brick size used in brickwall construction, to find out number of bricks in 4.5 inch thick wall we have to follow following steps for brick wall calculation:-

Steps for 4.5 inch brick wall

● Calculate area or volume of single brick size

● for find out number of bricks present in brick wall divide the given area or volume of brickwork by area or volume of single brick

● space cover by mortar in brickwork is 10% so deduct this from number of bricks

● about 5% of bricks are wastage during transportation, storage and brick laying work, so add this number into number of bricks

● by adding wastage number of bricks, you have got total number of brick required for 4.5 inch thick brick wall.

Formula for 4.5 inch brick wall calculation

Formula for brick calculation in 4.5 inch thick brick wall depends on given area or volume of brickwork and size of brick. So formula for number of brick calculation is

Number of bricks = (area of brickwork/area of 1 brick) + (5 % wastage _ 10% mortar)

This formula for brick calculation is used for number of bricks per square foot or per square metre for 4.5 inch brick wall

Number of bricks = (volume of brickwork/volume of 1 brick) + (5 % wastage _ 10% mortar)

This formula for brick calculation is used for number of bricks per cubic foot or per cubic metre for 4.5 inch brick wall.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation per sq ft

Indian brick size = 9″ × 3″ ×4.5″

Where length of brick = 9″ = 0.75 feet

Width of brick = 4.5″ = 0.375 feet

Depth of brick = 3″ = 0.25 feet

Area of 1 brick = 9″×3″ = 27 square inch

Area of brick in sq ft = 0.75′ × 0.25′ = 0.1875

Given area of brickwork = 1 sq ft

Number of bricks = area of brickwork/area of brick

No. of bricks = 1 sqft/0.1875 = 5.34

Consider 10% space cover by mortar deduct this value in number of bricks

10% of 5.34 = 0.534

Now no. of bricks = 5.34 _ 0.534 = 4.806

Consider 5% wastage of bricks in transportation, storage and doing brickwork so add this value in number of brick

5% of 5.34 = 0.267

No. of bricks = 4.806 + 0.267 = 5.073

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 5 bricks per square foot. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 5 bricks for 1 square feet.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation for 100 sq ft

5.073 nos bricks present in per square feet (sq ft) for 4.5 inch thick brick wall

1 sq ft = 5.073 nos bricks

100 sq ft = 5.073 × 100 = 507.3 nos bricks

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 500 bricks per 100 square feet. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 500 bricks for 100 square feet.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation per cubic feet

Indian brick size = 9″ × 3″ ×4.5″

Where length of brick = 9″ = 0.75 feet

Width of brick = 4.5″ = 0.375 feet

Depth of brick = 3″ = 0.25 feet

Volume of 1 brick = 9″×3″ × 4.5″= 121.4 cubic inch

Volume of brick in Cu ft = 0.75′ × 0.25′ × 0.375′ = 0.0703

Given volume of brickwork = 1 Cu ft

Number of bricks = volume of brickwork/volume of brick

No. of bricks = 1 cuft /0.0703 = 14.225

Consider 10% space cover by mortar deduct this value in number of bricks

10% of 14.225 = 1.4225

Now no. of bricks = 14.225 _ 1.4225 = 12.80

Consider 5% wastage of bricks in transportation, storage and doing brickwork so add this value in number of brick

5% of 14.225 = 0.711

No. of bricks = 12.80 + 0.711 = 13.511

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 13.5 bricks per cubic foot (CFT). So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 13.5 bricks for 1 cubic feet.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation for 100 Cu ft brickwork

13.511 nos bricks present in per cubic feet (cu ft) for 4.5 inch thick brick wall

1 Cu ft = 13.511 nos bricks

100 Cu ft = 13.511 × 100 = 1351 nos bricks

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 1350 bricks per 100 cubic feet. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 1350 bricks for 100 cubic feet.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation per square metre (sq m)

Indian brick size = 230mm× 75mm × 115mm

Where length of brick = 230mm = 0.23 m

Width of brick = 115mm = 0.115 m

Depth of brick = 75 mm = 0.075 m

Area of 1 brick = 230mm × 75 mm = 17250 square mm

Area of brick in sq m = 0.230 m ×0.075 m = 0.01725

Given area of brickwork = 1 sq m

Number of bricks = area of brickwork/area of brick

No. of bricks = 1 sq m/0.01725 = 58 nos

Consider 10% space cover by mortar deduct this value in number of bricks

10% of 58 = 5.8

Now no. of bricks = 58 _ 5.8 = 52.2

Consider 5% wastage of bricks in transportation, storage and doing brickwork so add this value in number of brick

5% of 58 = 2.9

No. of bricks = 52.2 + 2.9 = 55.1

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 55 bricks per square meter. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 55 bricks for 1 square meter.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation for 100 square metre ( sq m)) brickwork

55.1 nos bricks present in per square meter (sq m) for 4.5 inch thick brick wall

1 sq m = 55.1 nos bricks

100 sq m = 55.1 × 100 = 5510 nos bricks

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 5500 bricks per 100 square meters. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 5500 bricks for 100 square meters.

4.5 inch brick wall calculation per cubic meter ( Cu m)

Indian brick size = 230mm×75mm×115mm

Where length of brick = 230mm = 0.230 meter

Width of brick = 115mm = 0.115 meter

Depth of brick = 75 mm = 0.075 meter

Volume of brick in Cu m = 0.23 × 0.075 × 0.115 = 0.00198 m3

Given volume of brickwork = 1 Cu m

Number of bricks = volume of brickwork/volume of brick

No. of bricks = 1 cum/0.00198 = 505 nos

Consider 10% space cover by mortar deduct this value in number of bricks

10% of 505 = 50.5

Now no. of bricks = 505 _ 50.5 = 454.5

Consider 5% wastage of bricks in transportation, storage and doing brickwork so add this value in number of brick

5% of 505 = 25.25

No. of bricks = 454.5 + 25.25 = 479.75

In a typical 4.5 inch brick wall, there are 480 bricks per m3. So, an average, a typical 4.5 inch thick brick wall requires 5500 bricks for 1 cubic meter.
