How do i calculate number of bricks and cement required for a room? For brickwork we have required number of bricks, cement and sand quantity. Find the number of bricks in 4 inch wall and calculate quantity of cement and required in 4 inch wall.
The standard brick size in India is 190mm × 90 mm × 90mm. And cement sand ratio in mortar is 1:6, in which one part is cement and 6 part is sand. And mortar is prepared by mix of cement, sand and water in required proportion. About 20% of dry volume of mortar water is added.
When we calculate number of bricks and cement required for a room we need several procedure, calculation and given measurement of room.

1) We calculate volume of brick wall in room
2) deduction of volume window and door
3) calculate volume of 1 brick with mortar
4) calculate number of bricks in all 4 sides of brick wall of room
5) calculate volume of mortar quantity
6) calculate quantity of cement required for a room
7) calculate quantity of sand required for a room
How do i calculate number of bricks and cement required for a room?
● take measurement of room and mortar detail
Suppose height of brick wall = 10 ft
Length of brickwall = 10 ft
Brickwork thickness = 4 inch
Mortar ratio (cement and sand) = 1:6
1 Door size in room = 4×7 sqft
1 Window size in room = 3 × 4 sqft
● We calculate volume of brick wall in room
Volume of 1 brick wall = (L × B × H)
Volume of 1 brick wall = 10 ft × (4/12) ft × 10 ft = 33.33 Cuft
Volume of 1 brick wall = 33.33 Cuft
Volume of 4 brick wall = 33.33 × 4 Cuft
Volume of 4 brick wall = 133.32 Cuft
● deduction of volume window and door
Area of 1 door = 4 × 7 sqft = 28 sqft
Area of 1 window = 3 ×4 sqft = 12 sqft
Total Area of window and door = 28 sqft + 12 sqft = 40 sqft
Volume of window and door = 40 sqft × 4/12 ft = 13.13 Cuft
Volume of window and door space covered should be deducted in total volume of brickwork required for brick wall in room
Volume of brickwork = 133.32 _ 13.33 = 120 Cuft
Volume of brickwork in Cuft = 120
We know 1 m3 = 35.3147 Cuft
Volume of brickwork in m3 = 120/35.3147
Volume of brickwork in m3 = 3.4
● calculate volume of 1 brick with mortar
Standard size of brick in india is known as modular brick 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm
Size of brick in meter = 0.19m× 0.09m× 0.09m
Volume of 1 brick in Cubic meter
= 0.19m× 0.09m× 0.09m = 0.001539m3
Suppose thickness of mortar = 10 mm
Size of brick with mortar = 200 mm×100mm×100mm
Size of brick with mortar in meter = 0.2 m× 0.1m × 0.1m
Volume of brick with mortar in m3 = 0.2 m× 0.1m × 0.1m = 0.002
● calculate number of bricks required for construction of one room
Total volume of brick work = 3.4 m3
Volume of 1 brick with mortar = 0.002 m3
Number of bricks = brickwork volume/Volume of 1 brick with mortar
Number of bricks = 3.4 m3/0.002m3 = 1700
Number of bricks = 1700 nos
1700 nos of bricks required for constructing a one room having size 10 feet height, 10 feet length and 4 inch thick brick wall.
How to calculate number of bricks required for room?
Volume of brickwork = 3.4m3
Volume of 1 brick without mortar = 0.001539 m3
Number of bricks = 1700 nos
Volume of bricks = 1700 × 0.001539 m3
Volume of bricks = 2.6163 m3
Volume of mortar = volume of brickwork _ volume of bricks
wet volume of mortar = 3.4 m3_ 2.6163m3
Wet volume of mortar = 0.7837 m3
Dry volume of mortar = 1.33 × 0.7837m3
Dry volume of mortar = 1.04 m3
How to calculate quantity of cement required for a room?
Mix ratio of mortar = 1:6
Total proportion = 1+ 6 = 7
Part of cement = 1/7
Part of sand = 6/7
Dry volume of mortar = 1.04m3
Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3
Quantity of cement required for constructing one room = (1/7) × 1.04 m3 × 1440 kg/m3
Quantity of cement = 214 Kg
Quantity of cement in 1 bag = 50 Kg
Number of cement bags = 214/50 = 4.3
214 Kg ( 4.3 bags ) quantity of cement required for constructing a single room having size 10 feet height, 10 feet length and 4 inch thick brick wall.
How to calculate quantity of sand required for a room?
Quantity of sand = 6/7 × 1.04 m3 = 0.8914m3
1 m3 = 35.3147 m3
Quantity of sand in Cuft = 0.8914 × 35.3147
Quantity of sand in Cuft = 31.5
Weight of 1 Cuft for sand = 46 Kg
Quantity of sand in kg = 46 × 31.5 Kg
Quantity of sand in Kg = 1448
0.8914m3 ( 31.5 Cuft or 1448 Kg) quantity of sand is required for constructing a single room having size 10 feet height, 10 feet length and 4 inch thick brick wall.
