Quantity of cement sand and water for brickwork

* size of brick:- there is two size of brick one is modular size of brick and second one is Indian size of brick in this calculation we have taken Indian size of brick have dimension 230 × 115 ×75 mm and thickness ofcement mortar is about 10 mm and volume of brickwork is about 10 metre cube

(1Q) calculate cement sand and water for brickwork of 10m3:-

* given dimension:-

Volume of brickwork=10m3

Thickness of cement mortar=10mm

Size of brick =230×115 ×75 mm

Size of brick in metre=0.230 ×0.115×0.075
Adding 10 mm mortar thickness in size of brick

Size of brick with mortar=240 ×125 ×85 mm
Size of brick with mortar in metre=0.24×0.125×0.085 m
Vbw= volume of brickwork
Vm= volume of mortar
Vb =volume of brick

* calculation:-
Vbw =Vb +Vm
Vm =Vbw_Vb
Volume of one brick with mortar
=0.240×0.125×0.085m3=0.00255m3
If we divide volume of brickwork by volume of one brick with mortar we get total number of bricks
No. Of bricks = brickwork volume/ volume of one brick with mortar

Number of bricks=10/0.00255=3923 nos

Now we calculate volume of brick without mortar =0.230×0.115×0.075 m3=0.00198m3
Total brick volume=3922×0.00198=7.78m3
Volume of mortar=10 _ 7.78 =2.22m3
We consider wastage of mortar is 20%
Extra 20%=2.22×20/100=0.444m3

Now Total wet volume of mortar =2.22+0.444 =2.664 m3

Now we calculate dry volume in the case of dry volume calculation cement mortar is increased by 33% so we should multiply cofactor 1.33 in in wet volume

Dry volume=1.33×2.664=3.543 m3

Now we calculate quantity of cement sand and water

* mix ratio :-in mix ratio of cement sand mortar is about 1:6 in brickwork and water cement ratio is about 0.5 and total proportion is 1+6 =7

1) quantity of cement:-

Weight of cement =volume ×density
Density of cement=1440kg/m3
Dry volume=3.543 m3

And cement quantity is 1 part in total proportion 7 so

Weight =3.543×1×1440/7 =729 kg
One bag cement is 50 kg
Number of bag of cement =729/50=14.6 bags

2) quantity of sand:
in mix ratio sand is 6 part and total proportion in 7
1m3 =35.3147 cft
We convert cubic metre into cubic foot

Sand quantity =3.543×6×35.3147/7 =107cft

3) water quantity:- in mix ratio cement water ratio is about 0.5
Water/cement=0.5
Cement = 729 kg
Water = 0.5×729 =364.5 liter
