The weight of a concrete slab can be estimated using the density of concrete. On average, concrete has a density of about 2,400 kg/m³ or 150 lb/ft³. For a 100mm (4″) thick slab:
1. Per square meter: Weight = Area (m²) × Thickness (m) × Density (kg/m³).
2. Per square foot: Weight = Area (ft²) × Thickness (ft) × Density (lb/ft³).
Concrete used for construction of residential, commercial and industrial structure, several projects like bridge, dams, reservoir, Highway Roadways driveway, french drainage system, patio, tunnels, base for retaining walls, drain construction, pavement, road, street, walkaway, and used for slab etc.
Concrete ready mix made of blended mix of Portland cement, sand gravel and other approved ingredient in a required proportion to achieve desired strength, concrete slab are used in patio making, walkway, driveway etc.
Generally weight of concrete slab depending on type of ingredient mixed in it there quantity and proportion, presence of rebar in concrete, grade of concrete, thickness of slab, according to this basis concrete is categorised into three categories rcc concrete, normal weight concrete and lightweight concrete.
The weight of concrete is determined by its density, which can vary based on the amount of aggregate, water, and air in the mix, on average mean density of concrete slab is about 2400 kg/m3, which is exactly equal as 24kN/m3 or 150 lbs per cubic foot, or approximately equal as 4050 lbs per cubic yard.
In United States, based on Imperial measurement system, weight of concrete slab measured in pound per square yard or pound per square foot, 1 cubic, in this article we know about how to calculate weight of concrete slab.
Calculate weight of concrete slab
Weight of concrete slab generally based on thickness of slab, thickness of Patio or walkway slab is about 3.5″, thickness of driveway is about 5″, so thickness of slab varies between 4 inch to 8 inch according to construction of project structure, on average generally you take thickness of slab is about 4 inch for calculation of weight of concrete slab.
Calculate weight of concrete slab
To calculate weight of concrete slab, multiply the volume of slab and density of concrete, the volume is simply calculated as Area times the depth, Volume = Area × depth. Total weight of concrete slab = Volume × density.
Steps to calculate weight of concrete slab in following:-
1) Measure all dimensions (Length, width, and thickness) of concrete slab in feet,
2) Multiply length of slab by width and by thickness to determine cubic footage
3) Multiply the total cubic feet needed by the 0.037 to get cubic yards of concrete.
4) Multiply your total yards by 2.025 to determine weight of concrete slab in US tons
5) Multiply your US tons by 2000 to determine weight of concrete slab in pounds.
For example:- Calculate weight of concrete slab that is 10 feet long by 10 feet wide by 4 inch depth.
1) A concrete slab of dimension 10 feet long by 10 feet wide by 4 inch depth
2) Calculate area of concrete slab = length× width, such as 10’×10′ = 100 sq ft
3) Convert depth into feet, as 4 inch is equal as 0.33 feet
4) calculate volume of concrete slab by multiplying area and their depth as 100 sq ft× 0.33 feet = 33 cubic feet
5) calculate weight of concrete slab by multiplying volume and their density in similar unit as Weight = Volume× density, density= 150lb/ cf, so total weight = 33 cf × 150 lb/cf = 4950 pounds or 2.475 short tons.
Weight of concrete calculator
A typical concrete mix weighs 150 lbs per cubic foot, 4,050 lbs per cubic yard, or 2,400 kg per cubic meter. The weight of concrete is determined by its density, which can vary based on the amount of aggregate, water, and air in the mix.
Weight of concrete calculator: weight of concrete in US tons = Cubic yards × 2.025. Multiply length of slab by width and by thickness in feet to determine cubic footage and multiply the total cubic feet needed by the 0.037 to get cubic yards of concrete. To convert yards of concrete to US tons, multiply your yards by 2.025 and to convert tons of concrete to pound, multiply your tons by 2000.
Weight of concrete calculator formula: 1) weight of concrete in pounds = Volume of slab in cubic feet × 150lb/ft^3, 2) weight of concrete in kg = Volume of slab in cubic meter × 2400kg/m3, and 3) weight of concrete in US tons = Volume of slab in cubic yards × 2.025.
How to find the weight of concrete
To find the weight of concrete, simply multiply the volume of solid slab of concrete by density in similar units such as Weight of concrete = Volume of slab × density. Volume of slab is calculated by Area times depth such as Volume = Area × depth.
Steps to find weight of concrete are following:
1) Measure all dimensions (Length, width, and thickness) of concrete slab in feet,
2) Multiply length of slab by width and by thickness to determine cubic footage
3) Multiply the total cubic feet needed by the 0.037 to get cubic yards of concrete.
4) Multiply your total yards by 2.025 to determine weight of concrete slab in US tons
5) Multiply your US tons by 2000 to determine weight of concrete slab in pounds.
Weight of concrete slab per square foot
As per Imperial or US customary measurement system, generally weight of concrete slab is about 49.50lb per square foot at suggested depth of 4 inches thick, 37.50lb at 3 inches thick, 62.50lb at 5 inches thick and 75lb/ square foot at 6 inches thick.
Calculate weight of concrete slab in kg
To calculate weight of concrete slab in kg, multiply the volume of slab in cubic metres and density of concrete (2400kg/m3), the volume is simply calculated as Area times the depth, Volume = Area × depth. So, weight of concrete slab in kg = Volume of slab in m3 × 2400kg/m3.
For example:- Calculate the weight of 4m × 2.5m concrete slab in kg at 100mm thickness.
1) A concrete slab of dimension 4 metres long by 2.5 metres wide by 4 inch depth
2) Calculate area of concrete slab = length× width, such as 4m ×2.5m = 10 sq. m
3) Convert depth into meter, as 4 inch is equal as 100mm or 0.1m
4) calculate volume of concrete slab by multiplying area and their depth as 10 sqm × 0.1m = 1 cubic meter
5) calculate weight of concrete slab by multiplying volume and their density in similar unit as Weight = Volume× density, density= 2400kg/ m3, so total weight = 1 m3 × 2400kg/m3 = 2400 kgs or 2.4 MT.

Calculate weight of concrete slab in pound
To calculate weight of concrete slab in pound, multiply the volume of slab in cubic yards and density of concrete (4050lb/yd^3), the volume is simply calculated as Area times the depth, Volume = Area × depth. So, weight of concrete slab in pound = Volume of slab in yards × 4050lb/yd^3.
For example:– Calculate weight of concrete slab that is 10’×10′ at 4 inches thick. Ans. Maths calculation: 1) 4 inches thickness in feet = 4÷12 = 0.33′, 2) cubic footage of concrete slab = 10’×10’×0.33’= 33 cubic feet, 3) cubic yard of concrete slab = 33 × 0.037 = 1.22 yards, 4) weight of concrete slab = 1.22 × 4,050 = 4,941 pounds.
Concrete slab calculator
