What is plastering procedure:- Plaster is a thin layer of mortar applied over the rough surface of brick wall and it acts as “damp proof coat” over  the brick work .plastering also provide fine and finish surface over the brick wall that is firm and smooth and it enhances the appearance of of brick wall building.

Plaster work

 ● Thickness of plastering work: There is a two types of plastering work first one is internal plastering of brick wall and second one is external plastering of brick wall.

In internal plastering of brick wall plaster thickness is about 12 mm and in the case of external plastering work of brick wall plaster thickness is about  15 mm to 20 mm, and also plastering work is done on the RCC slab ,in the case of RCC plastering thickness is about 6 mm.

What are different types of plastering work

● (1) lime plaster:- in the case of lime plaster lime is used as binding material for the plastering work of brick wall

●( 2) cement plaster:-in the case of cement plaster cement is used as binding material for the plastering work of brick wall

● (3) mud plaster :- in the case of mud plaster mud is used as binding material for the plastering work of brick wall.

1 bag of cement covers how much area of plaster

1 bag cement plaster coverage area is calculated by consumption of cement and sand quantity in plaster, that is very good questions 1 bag of cement covers how much area of plaster.

1) 1 bag cement external wall plaster coverage area ( 1:6 mix ratio & 20 mm thick plastering)

Given no of cement bags = 1 bag

1 bag cement weight = 50 kg

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3

Dry Volume of cement = weight/density

Dry volume of cement = 50/1440 = 0.0347

Dry volume of cement = 0.0347 m3

If cement sand ratio is 1:6 , than

Dry volume of sand = 0.0347 ×6 = 0.208 m3

Total volume of mortar = 0.2427 m3

For converting dry volume of mortar to wet volume we will divide by 1.33 to dry volume of mortar

Wet volume = 0.2427/1.33 = 0.1825 m3

Thickness of plaster = 20 mm = 0.020 m

Coverage area of plaster = 0.1825/0.02 = 9.125 m2.

A typical 50kg bag or sack of Portland cement will cover approximately 100 square feet or 9 square meters (m2) of plaster surface for exterior plastering (rendering) of a 20mm thick brick wall at a 1:6 mix ratio. This is coverage area of plaster in one bag cement.

2) 1 bag cement internal wall plaster coverage area ( 1:4 mix ratio & 12 mm thick plastering)

Given no of cement bags = 1 bag

1 bag cement weight = 50 kg

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3

Dry Volume of cement = weight/density

Dry volume of cement = 50/1440 = 0.0347

Dry volume of cement = 0.0347 m3

If cement sand ratio is 1:4 , than

Dry volume of sand = 0.0347 ×4 = 0.1388 m3

Total volume of mortar = 0.1735 m3

For converting dry volume of mortar to wet volume we will divide by 1.33 to dry volume of mortar

Wet volume = 0.1735/1.33 = 0.131 m3

Thickness of plaster = 12 mm = 0.012 m

Coverage area of plaster = 0.131/0.012 = 10.92 m2.

A typical 50kg bag or sack of Portland cement will cover approximately 120 square feet or 11 square meters (m2) of plaster surface for interior plastering (rendering) of a 12mm thick brick wall at a 1:4 mix ratio. This is coverage area of plaster in one bag cement.

1 bag of cement covers how much area? A typical one (50kg) bag or sack of Portland cement will cover approximately 100 to 120 square feet or 9 to 11 square meters (m2) of area for brick wall plastering. For external plastering it will cover 100 square feet area and for internal plastering it will cover about 120 square feet.

How many m2 does a bag of plaster cover

A typical one 25 kg sack or bag of plaster is sufficient to cover approximately 10 m2 (square meter) or 110 square feet of brick wall plaster area at 2mm thickness.

1 bag of cement covers how much area

A typical one 50 kg sack or bag of Portland cement is sufficient to cover approximately 100 to 120 square feet or 9 to 11 square meters (m2) of brick wall plaster area. It will cover an area of 100 square feet for the exterior plaster and about 120 square feet for the interior plaster.

A bag or sack of cement is 94 lb (43 kg) in the United States; for other kinds of cement, a quantity is indicated on the bag.

A typical 94 lb bag or sack of Portland cement will cover approximately 84 square feet or 8 square meters (m2) of plaster surface for exterior plastering (rendering) of a 20mm thick brick wall at a 1:6 mix ratio.

Cement mortar calculation for 1m2 plastering

●Given dimension:-

Brick wall size = 1 m× 1m

Mortar thickness in the case of internal plaster work t = 12 mm

solve:-

     Wet volume of mortar = A× t

Vw = wet volume

        Vw = 1m× 1m × 12mm

Vw = 1m2 × 0.012m

Wet volume = 0.012 m3

◆note:-You know that wet volumes contains water and its bubble it can be  remove by pressing the Plaster that’s require more quantity of mortar material mixture of sand and cement ,that is dry volume.

Hence dry volume is increased by 33% of wet volume. so we have to convert wet volume  in dry volume by conversion factor multiplying 1.33

● dry volume = 1.33×wet volume

Dry volume = 1.33×0.012 m3

Dry volume = 0.01596 m3

●  Ratio of sand and cement:- Ratio of sand and cement which are used in plastering work of brick wall is 1:6, in this ratio 1 part is cement  and 6 part is sand.

● mix ratio = 1:6

  Total R = 1+6 =7

  Dry volume =0.01596 m3

Plaster work

● Quantity of cement for plastering in kg

Weight of cement = volume ×density

    Density of cement= 1440 kg/m3

Weight = 1/7×0.01596 m3×1440 kg/m3

Weight of cement =3.28 kg

Some amount of Cement Solution are also used as binding material for plastering work it will be about 25%

Weight of Cement Solution=3.28×25/100

                                =0.82 kg

Now Total weight of cement required for plastering work= 3.28 kg+ 0.82 kg=4.1kg Ans.

4.1 kg cement quantity is required for plastering of 1 square metre brick wall

Quantity of sand in CFT:- in the mix ratio of mortar 6 part is sand used in plastering work of brick wall

Volume of sand = 6/7×0.01596m3

 1 m3 = 35.3147 ft3

Putting this value we get

 Volume of sand =6/7×0.01596 × 35.3147 cft

Quantity of sand =0.483 CFT Ans.

Plaster work

Calculate the quantity of sand and cement in 1 foot2 plaster work

Solve :- first you should convert given area 1 metre square into foot square

We know that 1m2 = 10.76 foot square

Given area 1 metre square require 4.1 kg cement and 0.483 cft sand so we have

10.76 ft square area of plastering work require 4.1 kg sand and 0.483 cft sand

So sand quantity for 1 foot square plaster work

 Sand quantity/ft2 = 0.483 cft÷10.76

 Sand quantity/ft2 = 0.0449 cft

Now cement quantity for 1 foot square plaster work

Cement quantity/ft2 = 4.1÷10.76 kg

Cement quantity/ft2 =0.38 kg

So 1 square foot plaster work require

Sand quantity = 0.0449 cft

Cement quantity = 0.38 kg

Plaster work

Coverage area of plaster in one bag cement

● Solve :-

Calculation of area of plaster work in foot square by one bag cement ,we know that

  1 bag cement = 50 kg

1 square foot plaster work require 0.38 kg of cement

0.38 kg for 1 ft2 plaster

1 kg cement for 1ft2/0.38kg plaster

50 kg cement for 1 ft2/ 0.38 kg × 50 kg plaster

               = 131  square feet plaster

Coverage area of plaster is 131 square feet in one bag cement.

Conclusion:-

A typical 94 lb bag or sack of Portland cement will cover approximately 84 square feet or 8 square meters (m2) of plaster surface for exterior plastering (rendering) of a 20mm thick brick wall at a 1:6 mix ratio.
