Most important 3 ingredient of concrete cement, sand and gravel have almost same density, generally they are mixed in the ratio of 1:2:3 (1 part cement to 2 parts sand & 3 parts gravel by weight) to gain 3500 psi strength of concrete and water should be added in the range of 50% of weight of Portland cement.

Calculate how much water do you need for a bag of concrete in following steps:-

● assume there is a 80lb dry concrete mix bag made of blended mix of Portland cement, sand and gravel in ratio of 1:2:3 (1 part cement to 2 parts sand & 3 parts gravel) respectively by weight.

● calculating of Portland cement in total mix ratio, such as total mix ratio 1+2+3 = 6, part of cement = 1/6, so quantity of Portland Cement in the mix = 80lb/6 = 13.33 pounds, thus quantity of Portland Cement in a bag of premix concrete would be nearly about 13.33 pounds.

● calculate how much water do you need for a bag of 80 lb concrete, its depend on water cement ratio would be 0.5, so quantity of water such as 13.33 × 0.5 = 6.66 pounds, generally a gallon (8 pints or 4 quarts) of water weigh about 8.345 lbs, so volume of 6.66 lbs of water such as 6.66÷8.345 = 0.8 gallon (little more than 6 pints or 3 quarts, or 3 litres). Thus, you should mix 0.8 gallon or little more than 6 pints or 3 quarts, or 3 litres of water with a bag of 80lb premix concrete.

Regarding this, “how much water do I need for a bag of concrete?”, You will need approximately 0.8 gallon (little more than 6 pints, 3 quarts, or 3 litres) of water for an 80lb (pound) bag of concrete, while 0.6 gallon (little more than 4 pints, 2 quarts, or 1.5 litres) of water for a 60lb (pound) bag. A 20kg bag of concrete will require 1.5 to 2 litres of water. A 25kg bag of concrete will require little more than 2 litres of water. A 40kg bag of concrete will require 3 to 3.5 litres of water.
