Mortar calculation | how much mortar do i need for block & brickwork

When you think about new project of your brick/ block wall, whether you are using a premix mortar for mixing manually on site, its important to understand which is appropriate for your project. Generally cement to sand ratio ranges from one part cement to 3 to 4.5 parts sand depending on different strengths. If you use hydrated lime mix with sand and cement then proper mortar ratio 1:1:6 (1 part cement to 1 part hydrated lime to 6 part sand) is being used.

At construction site mortar will prepared by mixing of Portland cement, sand, hydrated lime, water and some appropriate additive in required proportion. You can also use premixed bag of mortar which are available in 80 and 60 pounds bag.

In this article you know about mortar calculation for your block brick project and estimation of mortar quantity how much mortar you will need per 100 blocks & bricks.

Mortar calculation | how much mortar do i need?

By mortar calculation you can easily make estimate how much mortar you will need to buy for your block or brick wall project with the help of mortar calculator in simple way and you can do mortar calculation in such ways-

Mortar calculation & how do i calculate how much mortar i need in following steps:-

Mortar calculation for brick wall/ how to estimate mortar for brick projects

● Measure the height and width of your brick wall of projects, assuming brick wall height 10 feet and 12 feet wide

● To calculate the square footage area of the brick wall, multiply wall height by wall width such as 10 ×12 = 120 sq ft, thus you have 120 square footage of brick wall

● calculate number of bricks needed for project per square foot, you will need roughly 6.9 modular bricks per square foot, so you will multiply the square footage by 6.9 to estimate the total number of bricks required such as 120× 6.9 = 828 bricks

● estimate mortar:- to find the yield of mortar you are using, and divide total number of bricks by the yield. A 80lb bag of mortar yields 36 bricks, so divide the total number of bricks by 36 to calculate the number of bags needed such as 828 ÷36 = 23 bags, thus you will need 23bags of 80lb or 31bags of 60lb premixed mortar for your 120 sq ft of brick wall.

Mortar calculation for block wall/ how to estimate mortar for block projects

● Measure the height and width of your brick wall of projects, assuming brick wall height 10 feet and 12 feet wide

● To calculate the square footage area of the block wall, multiply wall height by wall width such as 10 ×12 = 120 sq ft, thus you have 120 square footage of block wall

● calculate number of block needed for project per square foot, you will need roughly 1.125 blocks per square foot, so you will multiply the square footage by 1.125 to estimate the total number of blocks required such as 120× 1.125 = 135 blocks

● estimate mortar:- to find the yield of mortar you are using, and divide total number of blocks by the yield. A 80lb bag of mortar yields 12 blocks, so divide the total number of blocks by 12 to calculate the number of bags needed such as 135 ÷12 = 11 bags, thus you will need 11bags of 80lb or 15bags of 60lb premixed mortar for your 120 sq ft of block wall.

How much mortar do i need for 100 blocks?

How much mortar do i need for 100 blocks?”, as a general thumb rule, you will need approximately 9 bags of 80lb or 11 bags of 60lb premixed mortar for 100 blocks. Thus you will need 9bags of 80lb mortar per 100 blocks.
