How to calculate quantity of bricks | brick calculation formula

We know that bricks have irregular shape and size and their measurement varies according to different nation but in this topic we measured according to indian standard size of brick and US standard modular brick size that is used in standard calculation.

According to several practices, actual size or modular size of brick have dimension 190mm × 90mm × 90mm and nominal size of brick is equal to actual size + thickness of mortar, taking 3/8″ or 10 to 12 mm for mortar brick joints, then nominal size of a standard brick is 200mm × 100mm × 100mm or 8″ × 4″ × 4″ in respect of length width and their height.

Quantity of brickwork is measured in several unit such as cubic meter (m3), cubic foot (cuft), square foot (sqft), square meter (sqm), square yard (sq yd) & cubic yard (cu yd). Brick wall is several types have different thickness some are of single brick is also known as half brick wall or 4 inch brick wall, in some place it is also known as 4.5 inch or 5 inch brick wall. Other type of brick wall containing two layer of brick known as double brick wall or full brick wall and it is also known as 9 inch or 10 inch brick wall.

How to calculate quantity of bricks | bricks calculation formula

To calculate quantity of bricks, you just need to multiply height and length of brick wall in square meter, then resulting square metre is multiply by 50 to get number of bricks required for singular brick or half brick wall, in case of double brick or full brick wall square metre area of wall is multiply by 100, add extra 10% for wastage. This will give number of bricks you need assume that standard brick size and standard mortar.

Bricks calculation formula

There are following bricks calculation formula is used to figure out number of bricks you need:- 1) for Singular or half brick wall – (Area of wall in m2 × 50) + 10% wastage, 2) for double or full brick wall – (Area of wall in m2 × 100) + 10% wastage, or 3) volume of brick wall in cubic meter × 500 nos bricks + 10% wastage, or 4) for Singular or half brick wall – (Area of wall in sq ft × 4.5) + 10% wastage, 5) for double or full brick wall – (Area of wall in sq ft × 9) + 10% wastage, or 6) volume of brick wall in cubic feet × 13.5 nos bricks + 10% wastage, or 7) for Singular or half brick wall – (Area of wall in sq yard × 42) + 10% wastage, 8) for double or full brick wall – (Area of wall in sq yard × 84) + 10% wastage, or 9) volume of brick wall in cubic yard × 365 nos bricks + 10% wastage. These all are bricks quantity calculation formula.

How to calculate quantity of bricks per m2

● to calculate area of one brick multiply the Length and width of nominal size of brick such as 0.2 m × 0.1m = 0.02 m2

● to calculate number of bricks per m2 for singular or half brick wall, you need to divide area of brick wall in square metre by area of one brick such as 1m2 ÷ 0.02m2 = 50 nos, resulting figure 50 is multiply by 2 (50×2=100) to get number of bricks per m2 for double brick or full brick wall

Example 1:- how many bricks you need for 10 square metre of brick wall

For singular brick wall

● 10m2 × 50 = 500 nos bricks
● 10% of 500 = 50 nos bricks
● total bricks quantity = 500 +50 = 550 nos

For double brick wall

● 10m2 × 100 = 1000 nos bricks
● 10% of 1000 = 100 nos bricks
● total bricks quantity = 1000 +100 =1100 nos

How to calculate quantity of bricks per sq ft

● to calculate area of one brick multiply the Length and width of nominal size of brick such as 8″ × 4″ = 32 sq inches

● divide the square inches by 144 to get area of brick in square feet 32 ÷ 144 = 0.22 sq ft

● to calculate number of bricks per square foot for singular or half brick wall, you need to divide area of brick wall in square feet by area of one brick such as 1 sq ft ÷ 0.22 sq ft = 4.5 nos, resulting figure 4.5 is multiply by 2 (4.5×2 = 9) to get number of bricks per sq ft for double brick or full brick wall

Example 2:- how many bricks you need for 100 square feet of brick wall

For singular brick wall

● 100 × 4.5 = 450 nos bricks
● 10% of 450 = 45 nos bricks
● total bricks quantity = 450 +45 = 495 nos

For double brick wall

● 100 × 9 = 900 nos bricks
● 10% of 900 = 90 nos bricks
● total bricks quantity = 900 +90 = 990 nos

How to calculate quantity of bricks per cubic foot

● to calculate volume of nominal size of brick by multiplying its length width and height such as 8″ × 4″ × 4″ = 128 cubic inches

● divide the cubic inches by 1728 to get volume of a brick in cubic feet 128 ÷ 1728 = 0.074 cu ft

● to calculate number of bricks per cubic foot, you need to divide volume of brick wall in cubic feet by volume of one brick such as 1 cu ft ÷ 0.074 sq ft = 13.5 nos bricks

Example 3:- how many bricks you need for 10 cubic feet of brick wall

● 10 × 13.5 = 135 nos bricks
● 10% of 135 = 13.5 nos bricks
● total bricks quantity =135 +13.5 =148.5 nos

How to calculate quantity of bricks per cubic meter

● to calculate volume of nominal size of brick by multiplying its length width and height such as 200 × 100 × 100 in mm = 2000000 cubic millimeter

● divide the cubic millimeter by 1000000000 to get volume of a brick in cubic meter 2000000 ÷ 1000000000 = 0.002m3

● to calculate number of bricks per cubic meter, you need to divide volume of brick wall in cubic feet by volume of one brick such as 1 m3 ÷ 0.002 m3 = 500 nos bricks

Example 4:- how many bricks you need for 10 cubic meter of brick wall

● 10 × 500 = 5000 nos bricks
● 10% of 5000 = 500 nos bricks
● total bricks =5000 +500 = 5500 nos

How to calculate quantity of bricks per square yard

● to calculate area of one brick multiply the Length and width of nominal size of brick such as 8″ × 4″ = 32 square inches

● divide the square inches by 144 to get area of a brick in square feet 32 ÷ 144 = 0.22 sq ft

● divide the square feet by 9 (9 sq ft = 1 sq yard) to get area of a brick in square yard 0.22 ÷ 9 = 0.024 sq yard

● to calculate number of bricks per square yard for singular or half brick wall, you need to divide area of brick wall in square yard by area of one brick such as 1 sq yd ÷ 0.024 sq yd = 42 nos, resulting figure 42 is multiply by 2 (42×2= 84) to get number of bricks per square yard for double brick or full brick wall

Example 5:- how many bricks you need for 10 square yard of brick wall

For singular brick wall

● 10 × 42 = 420 nos bricks
● 10% of 420 = 42 nos bricks
● total bricks = 420 +42 = 462 nos
