Cement required for 1 sqm half brickwork

Cement required for 1 sqm half brickwork | how much sand and cement do I need for 1 square metre half brickwork | cement required for 1 square metre of single layer of brickwork.

Brickwork is masonry produced by a bricklayer of half or single layer of brick or full brickwall (double brick) by using bricks and cement or lime mortar. Typically, rows of bricks called courses are laid on top of one another to build up a structure such as a brick wall.

There is a two types of two types of brick wall half brick wall and full brick wall. Half brick wall is made of single layer of brick and full brick wall is made of double layer of brick. In Modern construction generally half brick wall of single layer is applicable in modern house and double brick wall used as boundary wall or retaining wall.

Cement mortar is prepared by mixing of cement sand and water. Generally one part of cement is mixed with 6 part of sand, so cement to sand ratio is 1:6, this cement mortar is used as adhesive or binding material that give strength to brick wall.

Most common actual size of a standard modular brick which are used in India is 190 × 90× 90 mm, taking 10mm thickness for mortar joint between the bricks, so nominal size of brick equal to actual size plus mortar thickness which is 200 × 100 × 100 mm.

In this artical you know about cement required for 1 sqm half brickwork and how much sand and cement do I need for 1 square metre half brickwork.

Cement required for 1 sqm half brickwork

You have given quantity of brickwork = 1 sqm or 1 square meter, generally brickwork calculated in cubic meter, so quantity of brickwork in m3 = 1 sqm × thickness of half brickwall such as 1 sqm × 0.1m = 0.1m3.

Volume of one brick without mortar is calculated by multiplying all three dimension length width and depth of brick such as 0.19m × 0.09m × 0.09m = 0.001539m3 and volume of one brick with mortar will be 0.2m × 0.1m × 0.1m = 0.002m3.

To calculate number of bricks in 0.1m3 of brickwork, divide volume of brickwork by volume of one brick with mortar such as 0.1m3 ÷ 0.002m3 = 50 bricks, so volume of 50 nos bricks = 50 × 0.001539 = 0.07695m3.

To calculate required quantity of mortar, subtract the volume of 50 nos bricks from quantity or volume of brickwork such as 0.1m3 _ 0.07695m3 = 0.02305m3, this figure multiply by 1.33 to get dry volume of mortar such as 0.02305m3 × 1.33 = 0.03065m3.

Cement to sand ratio is 1:6 in which 1 part of cement is mixed with 6 part of sand, so total proportion = 1 + 6 = 7, part of sand in mix = 6/7 of dry quantity of mortar and part of cement in mix = 1/7 of dry quantity of mortar.

To calculate required quantity of cement for 1 sqm half brickwork = 1/7 of dry quantity of mortar, such as 1/7 × 0.03065m3 × 1440 kg/m3 = 6.3kg or 0.126 bags of 50kg cement. Where 1440 kg/m3 is density of cement. Thus 6.3kg or 0.126 bags of 50kg cement or 0.252 bags of 25kg cement or approximately 14 lbs cement quantity are required for 1 sqm (1 square meter) half brickwork.

To calculate required quantity of sand for 1 sqm half brickwork = 6/7 of dry quantity of mortar, such as 6/7 × 0.03065m3 × 35.3147 = 0.93 cuft or 42kg of sand. Where 1m3 = 35.3147 cuft. Thus 0.93 cuft or approximately 42kg of sand quantity are required for 1 sqm (1 square meter) half brickwork.
