M stand for mix and number indicates the comprehensive strength of concrete in curing time of 28 days.comprehensive strength of M20 grade of concrete is 20N/mm2 and comprehensive strength of m25 grade of concrete is 25 N/mm2.

◆ **concrete ratio in M20** :- ratio of cement sand and aggregate in M20 mix is ( 1: 1.5 : 3) one part is cement 1.5 part is sand and three part is aggregate.

1) **main bar** :- 12 mm diameter of Steel Bar used as main bar . it is shortist span bar usually used at bottom of slab having spacing 4 inch between the two bar and also main bar used in shorter direction.

2) **cross bar** :- 10 mm diameter of Steel used as cross bar ,it is also called longer span or distribution bar are used at top of the main Bar .cross bar is used in longer direction having Centre to Centre spacing is 5 inches between two bar.

◆ **given dimension :-**

Thickness of slab = 5″

Length of slab = 50′

Width of slab = 35′

Area of slab = 50′ × 32′ = 1750 sq. ft

Wet volume = area of slab× thickness

1 feet = 12 inches

Wet volume = 1750 sq. ft× 5/12 ft

Wet volume = 729.17 cu.ft

if you want to convert into cubic meter you should divide by 35.32

1 m3 = 35.32 cu. ft

Wet volume = 729.17/35.32 = 20.64 m3

◆ **Dry volume** :- we know that wet volume have air Bubbles and water it can be removed by vibrator or compressor machine. so more quantity of cement sand and aggregate is required and dry volume is increased by 54% of wet volume so we can multiply cofactor 1.54 in wet volume to calculate dry volume

Dry volume = 20.64 m3× 1.54 = 31.78 m3

**Steel reinforcement required for slab of 1750 square feet**

According to Thumb Rule for slab quantity of steel required for slab is about 0.5% to 1% of dry volume of concrete than we take average is 0.75% dry volume of concrete.

Density of steel = 7850 kg/m3

Weight of steel = volume × density

Weight of steel = 0.75/100×(31.78m3×7850kg/m3)

Weight of steel = 1871 kg

1871 kg weight of Steel bar is required for 1750 square feet rcc roof slab

If market rate of steel bar is rs 60 per kg, but it will be very according to quality and brand rs 5 to 10 up and down

Total cost of steel = 1871× 60

Total cost of steel = rs 112262

1871 kg weight of Steel bar is required for 1750 square feet rcc roof slab and their construction cost is rs 112262 for steel

**Quantity of cement required for 1750 sqft slab**

Ratio in M20 grade = 1:1.5:3

Total proportion = 1+ 1.5+3 = 5.5
