How to calculate water tank capacity in litre

How to calculate water tank capacity | how to calculate water tank capacity in litres | how to calculate water tank capacity in litre

There is necessity of water tank in residential, commercial and industrial building, restaurants, hotel, hostel and others for many purpose like drinking, cooking, bathing and toilet, washing clothes, utensil cleaning, house cleaning and for others domestic uses.

For multi storey building, apartment, commercial and for industrial building there is a given design and plan of water tank facility to provide water in the house with the design and plan of house, so there is no need to calculate water tank capacity.

But for normal residential building in a small cities and in rural areas, if plan of water tank is not available with plan of house, so there is need of water tank in house for providing water facility for family members and they want to construct own methods cylindrical and rectangular water tank according to water requirement in their house for family members and they want to know about how to calculate water tank capacity.

As per Indian standard there is a need of about 135 litres of water per head per day for many domestic uses, about 5 litres of water required for drinking, 5 litres for cooking, 85 litres for bathing and toilet, 30 litres for washing cloth and and 10 litres for cleaning house.

About 135 litres of water require per day by per person, so family members of 4, 135×4= 540 litres, you will require about 540 litres of water per day for 4 family members, for 8 users you will require about 1080 litres of water, for 10 users you will require about 1350 litres of water, for 20 users you will require about 2700 litres of water, for 25 users you will require about 3375 litres of water, for 50 users you will require about 6750 litres of water, for 75 users you will require about 10000 litres of water and for 100 users you will require about 13500 litres of water.

Design and plan of water tank should be made according to daily requirement of water in the house based on number of users, in restaurant, hotels, hostels, Industrial and commercial building there is a need of huge amount of water so there water tank dimension should be larger, in residential small building there is a few user so there is necessity to construct a small water tank.

How to calculate water tank capacity

There is two types of water tank rectangular water tank and cylindrical water tank, measuring the volume of water tank is capacity of water tank.

In this regard, “how to calculate water tank capacity”, to answer this it is very simple, for rectangular water tank capacity, total volume of rectangular water tank equal as capacity, measure the Length, breadth and height of tank in metres as 2m × 1m × 0.5m, multiply 2m × 1m × 0.5m= 1m3, you get volume of water tank it can hold 1 cubic metre, multiply the answer by 1000 as 1×1000= 1000 litres, the result 1000 is water tank capacity in litres.

Or for cylindrical water tank capacity total volume of cylindrical water tank equal as capacity, total Volume of Cylinder shaped tank is the area A of circular end times the height H, A= πR^2, where R is the radius which is equal to 1/2 of diameter or d/2, therefore volume of Cylinder shaped water tank V tank = πR^2 × H, if diameter = 1.12m and height is meter, than R = 1.12/2 = 0.56m, so volume of tank = 3.14 × 0.56 × 0.56 × 1 = 0.984m3, nearly equal as 1m3, multiply the answer by 1000 as 1×1000= 1000 liters, the result 1000 is water tank capacity in liters.

How to calculate water tank capacity

FOR CIRCULAR WATER TANK

1) measure the diameter and height of water tank such as diameter = 1.2 meter, Height = 0.9 meter

2) convert diameter into radius, that is R= d/2 or 1.2/2 = 0.6 meter

3) measure the area of circular end, A= πR^2, as Area = 3.14 × 0.6 × 0.6 = 1.13 sqm

4) calculate volume of circular water tank by multiplying area and height as V tank = Area × H, as Volume = 1.13 sqm × 0.9 m = 1m3,

5) you get volume of water circular tank it can hold 1 cubic metre, multiply the answer by 1000 as1×1000= 1000 liters, the result 1000 is circular water tank capacity in liters.

FOR RECTANGULAR WATER TANK

1) measure the the length, width and height of rectangular water tank, as length = 2 meter, width = 1 meter and height = 0.5 meter,

2) calculate volume of rectangular water tank multiply Length, breadth and their height, as Volume = 2m × 1m × 0.5m = 1m3,

3) you get volume of water rectangular tank it can hold 1 cubic metre, multiply the answer by 1000 as 1×1000= 1000 liters, the result 1000 is rectangular water tank capacity in liters.
