The sill level refers to the bottom horizontal part of a window or door frame. The sill height is the distance from the ground or floor to the bottom of the sill. The difference between sill and lintel height is the vertical space between the bottom of the window or door frame (sill) and the top of the window or door frame (lintel).

Today there is different level used in building construction and home design, people are getting confused with lintel height, sill height and plinth beam height. In this article we briefly describe about what is sill level and sill height in building.

In modern house construction there is opening in wall for window, ventilator and door is provided for entry of fresh air, air ventilation and sound, yet free living enjoying in fresh environment in house.

When we are constructing a new house or for renovation of old house, proper sill level is provided for opening of window door and ventilation, it provide to ensure your privacy bathroom and bedroom proper height of seal label should be provided.

What is sill level:- Sill level is horizontal beam like member made of RCC, PCC, wood and steel which placed below the bottom of window frame for provide a smooth surface and preventing from moisture to wall.

Width of sill level is equal to width of brick wall and length of sill is equal to length of opening or window.

Sill height:- The height between the base of the window and floor level is known as Sill height. In general practice to ensure privacy, the Sill height in bathrooms and bedroom is kept equal to or greater than 1100mm or 3.5 feet from the floor level. While the Sill height for the living rooms and the common rooms is kept in the range of 600mm to 650mm or 2 feet to 2.5 feet from the floor level.

Sill height for living and common room:- to ensure fresh air and good environment in living room and common room sill height is kept around 600mm to 900mm (2feet to 3 feet) high above floor level.

What is sill height from floor level:- Height or distance between base of window frame to floor level is known as sill height. Generally it is kept around 900mm (3feet) high in residential building and around 1100mm (3.5feet) high for commercial building from floor level.

Sill height in feet:- Height or distance between base of window frame to floor level is known as sill height. Generally it is kept around 3 feet or 900mm high above floor level.

Sill height in mm:- Height or distance between base of window frame to floor level is known as sill height. Generally it is kept around 900mm height above floor level.

Sill height in meter:- Height or distance between base of window frame to floor level is known as sill height. Generally it is kept around 0.9m height above floor level.

Sill height of door:– Height or distance between bottom of door frame to lintel level is known as sill height of door. Generally, it is kept around 7 feet high above floor level.

Standard height of Window from floor level:-The standard height of the window generally fix, but it can be changed as per architectural and owner requirements. Windows standard height is fixed around 4 ft or up to the level of the door frame or lintel level.

Calculation of standard height of window:- sill height of Window is around 3 feet and lintel height is around 7 feet from floor level. Standard height of window = 7_3= 4 feet. So windows standard height is fixed around 4 ft or up to the level of the door frame or lintel level.

What is purpose of providing sill level? Sill level made of RCC, PCC, wood and steel, it is provided to bottom of window frame to give additional support to window frame. It Deliver smooth finished surface to bottom of window frame and prevent from Ingress of moisture, penetration and dampness to wall.

Effects due to absence of sill:- opening like window and door is necessary part of your house, it provide fresh air and good environment in your living room. Providing sill level in bottom out window frame for the prevention of cracking of wall and ingress of moisture, due to absence of sill, cracking is develop in wall and dampness of wall is caused due to moisture ingression.

What is Difference between sill level and lintel level? Sill level is height or distance between bottom of window frame to floor level, Generally, it is kept around 900mm (3 feet) height above floor level. While lintel height is height or distance between top of door frame to floor level,Generally, it is kept around 2.1m (7 feet) height above floor level.

What is Difference between sill level and plinth height? Sill level is height or distance between bottom of window frame to floor level, Generally, it is kept around 900mm (3 feet) height above floor level. While plinth height is height or distance between natural ground level and finished floor level,Generally, it is kept around 150mm to 450mm (0.5 to 1.5 feet) height above natural ground level.
