One may ask, “what is the meaning of stair?”, stairs means that access your flight between one floor to another and make used in building for moving from ground floor to upper floor. Staircase have many component like riser, tread, step, flight, landing etc.

Different part in staircase is tread, riser, landing, horizontal length, step, flight and inclined length. Let us know about different part of a stair definition

Tread:- the part of the stair that is stepped on and tread is defined as horizontal part of staircase on which we first apply foot on this for moving from ground floor to upper floor. The tread depth is measured from the back of one tread the back of next and their width is measured from one side to other.

Riser:- the vertical portion between each tread on the stair is riser, it may be missing in open stair, riser height measured from bottom each tread to next upper tread, or riser height may also called vertical distance between two tread.

Step:- the series of Riser and tread in which tread is horizontal part and riser is vertical part is called step, 1 tread and 1 riser make 1 step.

Flight:- series of step on stair without any platform is called flight. Generally in residential building there is a two flight and one landing . When we reach up to landing we turn and reach up to the upper floor.

Nosing:- an edge part of tread that protrudes over the riser beneath. Many Building Code require stair nosing for commercial, industrial or Municipal building, they provide additional length to the tread without changing the pitch of the stair.
