How do you calculate volume of sand

The first step is to establish the volume of sand needed for your landscaping work. Their quantity is equal to volume of excavation. You calculate volume of sand in following steps:

1) determine the length width and depth of excavation work, suppose length = 10 yards, width = 3 yards and depth = 3 inch or 0.25 feet,

2) convert each dimension in uniform units of measurement, as 1 yard is equal as 3 feet, so depth = 0.25 foot/ 3 = 0.083 yards

3) calculate volume of excavation in cubic yard by multiplying (length × width × depth) as 10 × 3 × 0.083 = 2.5 cubic yards which is equal as 67.5 cubic feet (2.5 × 27= 67.5) or 1.9m3 (67.5/ 35.3147 = 1.9)

4) Volume of excavation is equal as the volume of sand needed, so you will need about 2.5 cubic yards of sand for given excavation.

What does 1 ton of sand look like

A ton of sand is typically about 0.75 cubic yards or 20 cubic feet that look like covering of 120 square feet area as 12 feet in length, 10 feet width for depth upto 2 inch, for covering of 80 square feet area as 10 feet in length, 8 feet width for depth upto 3 inch or for covering of 240 square feet area as 24 feet in length, 10 feet width for depth upto 1 inch.
