Weight of ms channel | ms channel size

How to calculate weight of ms channel per meter, unit weight of ms channel per meter, in this article we know about ms channel weight chart & ms channel size & MS channel weight formula.

MS channel are U- shaped structure made of steel represented by dimension of its sides and thickness. MS channel have two parts flange and web. base and horizontal part of MS channel is known as flange and top vertical part of MS channel is known as web.

It has unequal sides for example 100×50×5 mm means both the sides web and flange of MS channel are 100 and 50 mm and their thickness is of 5 mm.

●Application of MS channel :- MS channel are used for manufacturing and construction of Engineering structure and fabrication and in manufacturing industrial sheds and balancing of Plant Structure.

It is used for manufacturing of truck taylor,ship building, factory shed, generator frames, tippers, crane, cable trays, boilers, agriculture equipment ,bus body ,mechanized parking system, construction of bridge and generator frame and many more engineering and industries equipment

MS channel size

We know that MS channel consist of flange and web, it comes in several sizes ranging between 75×40×4.8 mm to 400× 100× 8.8 mm.

Various size of ms channel are 75×40×4.8 mm, 100mm × 50mm ×5mm, 125mm × 65mm ×5.3mm, 150mm ×75mm ×5.7 mm. Their dimensions is web height × flange width × thickness. Web height is vertical height & flange width is horizontal length. Web is tension member and flange is compression member of steel.

Weight of ms channel calculated in in Kg per metre or in Kg per feet. Obviously higher dimension having higher weighted value and lower dimension having lower weight value.

In this calculation we take the example of ms channel having dimension 100×50×5 mm

Unit weight of ms channel

unit weight of ms channel calculated by formula weight = volume × density & density of steel is 7850 Kg/m3 and volume is calculated by multiplying web height × flange width × thickness.

Weight of MS channel in Kgs per meter

● Given :-

1) first we calculate volume of web of ms channel

Size of ms channel = 100×50×5 mm

Depth of web = 100 mm =0.1m

Thickness of web = 5 mm=0.005 m

Length of web = 1 m

Volume = l×b×h

Volume = 0.1×0.005×1 m3

Volume of web= 0.0005 m3

2) volume of two flange

Size of ms channel = 100×50×5 mm

Width of flange = 50_5 mm =45mm=0.045 m

Thickness of flange = 5 mm=0.005 m

Length of flange = 1 m

Volume = l×b×h

Volume = 0.045×0.005×1 m3

Volume of flange = 0.000225 m3

Volume of two flange = 0.000225×2 m3

Volume of two flange = 0.000450 m3

total volume of ms channel

Total volume = volume of flange+ volume of web

Total volume = 0.000450 +0.0005 m3

Total volume =0.000950m3

4) weight of ms channel

Weight = volume× density

Volume = 0.000950 m3

Density of steel = 7850 kg/m3

Weight = 0.000950m3×7850 kg/m3

Weight of ms channel = 7.45 kg/m

● Ans. :- 7.45 kg is unit weight of MS channel (size 100mm × 50mm × 5mm) per metre.

MS channel weight chart

Size of ms channel are 75×40×4.8 mm, 100mm × 50mm ×5mm, 125mm × 65mm ×5.3mm, 150mm ×75mm ×5.7 mm. Their dimensions is web height × flange width × thickness. MS channel weight are calculated in kgs/m & kgs/ft.  MS channel weight chart are given in following below table
