What is standard size of RCC beam structure

What is standard size of RCC beam structure,What is minimum size of RCC beam,hi guys in this article we discuss about what is standard size of RCC beam and what is minimum size of RCC beam. many of people who is related with construction work want to know about beam structure and their standard size.

I explain that Indian Standard code and American concrete Institute code and any other International code does not give the standard value of size of RCC beam and their minimum size.

All code of Design of beam structure is describes and made according to load acting on the beam structure and load carrying capacity of beam. According to load carrying capacity and load applied on the beam width and depth of beam and their reinforcement is decided. So do not confused with what is standard size of beam and what is minimum size of beam.

What is standard size of RCC beam
What is standard size of RCC beam

As we know beam is flexural structure member of building that transfer horizontal load acting on it safely to the column and column transfer its load safely to the footing and footing transfer its load safely to the bed of soil.

What is a standard size of rcc beam

By reading introduction part of this article we understand that there is no any standard size of beam, and it will be decided according to there design but in India Pakistan and Afghanistan and other neighbouring country of India generally we take general size of RCC beam for residential building is about 9″ ×12″ where 9 inch is width of beam and 12 inch is depth of beam.

Load carrying capacity of beam is gradually increases as increase in their depth

General size of beam = 9″ ×12″

Where width of beam = 9″

And depth of beam = 12″

But according to American concrete Institute Thumb Rule

Width of beam in( inch)= span of beam in feet

Suppose if we have span of beam = 10 foot

Than width of beam = 10 inch and their depth of beam should be = 10×1.2 = 12 inch and if we multiply 1.5 in 10 we get depth of beam 15 inches.

What is minimum size of rcc beam

By reading introduction part of this article we understand that there is no any minimum size of beam, and it will be decided according to their design but in India Pakistan and Afghanistan and other neighbouring country of India generally we take minimum size of RCC beam for residential building is about 9″ ×9″ where 9 inch is width of beam and 9 inch is depth of beam. Load carrying capacity of beam is gradually increases as increase in their depth

Minimum size of beam = 9″×9″

Where width of beam = 9 inch

And depth of beam = 9 inch

Why we provide 9 inch width in beam

India and their neighbouring country like Pakistan Afghanistan Nepal bhutan so many houses residential building in rural areas were constructed without design. Masonry mechanic and labour is kept brick wall size of 9 inches so width of beam is also taken is equal to 9 inch for good looking and it is not related with design of beam looking so far.

So we have

General size of rcc beam = 9″×12″

Minimum size of RCC beam = 9″×9″

I hope this article will help you understanding general size and minimum size of RCC beam

Thanking to all 🙏🙏
