The weight of 1 cubic foot (CFT) of sand depends on several factors like grain size, how it moist, source and types of rock, dry, wet and loose conditions. Natural sand collected from river basin & artificial sand (M sand) is manufactured sand by crushing of rocks.
The weight of sand is calculated on the basis of density of river sand and M sand (manufactured sand), natural sand is obtained from river Basin and artificial or manufactured sand is is obtained by crushing of stone in Crusher mill into fine particles.
How much does Sand weight? In general, the weight of sand is about 1,600 kilograms per cubic meter, 2,700 pounds per cubic yard, 100 pounds per cubic foot, 80 kg per square meter at 50mm deep, 45kg per cubic foot, 0.058 pounds per cubic inch, 13.5 pounds per gallon, 150 pounds per square yard at 2 inches deep, or 20 Pound per square foot at 2 inches deep.
The sand which are collected from river basin known as river sand, it is find sand. And the sand which are collected by crushing of stones are known as M sand ( manufactured sand).
Generally density of M sand is more than compared to River sand. 1 CFT sand weight in kg generally depend on many factors like wet, dry, loose & packed sand condition.
Do you know what is 1 CFT sand weight in kg? Unit Weight of sand depend on several factor of sand condition, let us discuss about several varying density of sand.
The density of the sand is vary if the sand is compacted (bulged) or loose and if it is wet or dry. When packed, the grains of sand are forced to form a narrower formation, and more matter is in the volume.
The sand density and their weight
The typical density of sand ranging between 1,420 to 2,082 kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3). However, it depends on different condition like wet, dry, loose, dry packed and wet packed.
Loose & dry sand density and their weight
The typical density of loose sand in kg/m3 is 1442 . It is dry sand that has been moved or agitated to loosen the natural packaging process.
The typical weight of 1CFT (cubic foot) of loose sand is about 41kg (90-pound). 1m3 (35.32 CFT) of loose sand weighs about 1442kg, so, weight of 1CFT of loose sand in kg = 1442/ 35.32 = 41kg.
Dry sand density and their weight
● Dry sand: density of dry sand in kg/m3 is 1602. It is sand in its undisturbed natural form, where it has been partially compacted by rain and gravity over time, but is now dry
The typical weight of 1CFT (cubic foot) of dry sand is about 45kg (100-pound). 1m3 (35.32 CFT) of dry sand weighs about 1600kg, so, weight of 1CFT of dry sand in kg = 1600/ 35.32 = 45kg.

● Packed sand: density of packed sand in kg/m3 is 1682. Sand that has been packed manually or mechanically (compacted).
The typical weight of 1CFT (cubic foot) of dry packed sand is about 47kg (104-pound). 1m3 (35.32 CFT) of dry packed sand weighs about 1,682kg, so, weight of 1CFT of dry packed sand in kg = 1,600/ 35.32 = 47kg.
Wet sand density and their weight
● Wet sand: density of wet sand in Kg/m3 is 1922. This is the sand that has been in a natural and naturally compressed environment that is now wet.
The typical weight of 1CFT (cubic foot) of wet sand is about 54kg (120-pound). 1m3 (35.32 CFT) of wet sand weighs about 1922kg, so, weight of 1CFT of wet sand in kg = 1922/ 35.32 = 54kg.
Wet packed sand density and their weight
● Wet packed sand: 2082 kg / m3. This is compacted sand that is also almost saturated with water.
The typical weight of 1CFT (cubic foot) of wet packed sand is about 59kg (130-pound). 1m3 (35.32 CFT) of wet packed sand weighs about 2,082kg, so, weight of 1CFT of wet packed sand in kg = 2,082/ 35.32 = 59kg.

1 CFT sand weight in kg
The typical weight of 1 CFT (cubic foot) of sand is range between 41kg and 59kg (90 lb to 130 lb), or on an average of 45kg (100 pound). Dry loose Bulk density of Sand is about 1600 kg/cum, 1 cum sand weighs 1600 kgs, we know 1m3 = 35.32 CFT, so 35.32 cft = 1600 kgs,1 cft sand weight = 1,600/ 35.32 kgs = 45.3 kgs, so 1 cft of sand would weigh around 45 kgs.
As we know density of sand ranging between 1450 – 2082 kg/m3 depending upon several factors, so minimum Unit Weight of sand is 1450 kg & maximum Unit Weight of sand is 2082 kg.
As we know 1m3 = 35.3147 cft, 1 cft minimum sand weight =1450/35.3147 =41 kg and 1 cft maximum sand weight = 2082/35.3147 = 59 kg, so 1 CFT sand weight in kg ranging between between 41 – 59 kg.
So 1 cubic feet sand to kg = 41 – 59 and 1 cft sand = 41 – 59 kg.
In general, 1 CFT of river sand weighs about 47 kg, while 1 CFT of M sand weighs about 49.5 kg. Likewise, a 1 CFT of dry sand weighs about 45 kg, while a 1 CFT of wet sand weighs about 54 kg. In addition, a 1 CFT of loose dry sand weighs about 40 kg.
The typical weight of 1 CFT of loose dry sand is about 40 kilograms. The weight of 1m3 or 35.32 CFT of loose Sand is about 1,420kg. So, a typical 1 CFT loose Sand weight = 1,420/35.32 = approx. 40 kg.
