Rod or steel bar also known as Rebar is short form of reinforcing bar, it is steel Rod or Steel wire provided as tension bar in concrete structure, used in reinforced concrete structure such as column, beam and slab of house construction and it also used in reinforced masonry structure. It is used to increase the tensile strength of concrete structure.
Rod or steel bars or Reinforcing bar/rebar surface is often deformed with ribs to promote a better bonding with concrete material and reduce the risk of slippage. The most common Rods or Reinforcing bar/ rebar is carbon steel of hot rolled round bar with the deformation patterns, the Steel rebar/ Rod may be also coated with epoxy resin material, design to resist effect of corrosion mostly in saltwater environment.
As we know that different countries in the world have their own gradation, specification of Steel and record of measurement for reinforcing bar or Rods. First remember that rebar is measured differentially in United States and Europe. while the United states, it uses the Imperial measurement system. Europe and most of rest of world uses the metric system and measured in mm.
In this article we briefly explain Rod weight per bundle: 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, 16mm, 20mm & 25mm steel bar and know about 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm & 32mm steel rod weight per bundle. This will help to viewers in better understanding and it is easy to choose the most suitable rebar or Rod weight per bundle you wanted according to requirement.
Let us first know about length of one piece of rod or steel bar, generally in India full length of one Steel bar or rod which are used in construction are available in 12 meter or approximately 40 feet long.
Rod weight per bundle: 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, 16mm, 20mm & 25mm steel bar
TMT Rebars or steel Rods are supplied in U bent or straight rods. Full length of the TMT Bars are 40 feet or approximately 12 meter long. In most cases civil engineers, contracts and others recommend to buy steel Rod/ TMT Bars in pieces, bundles or in tons or in quintal. The sizes also varies according to the structure of the building. For an example in main slab 10mm/12mm bars are required, for distribution it will be 8mm/10mm for beam it will be 16mm and 12mm according to the span length.
To calculate steel rod weight for 1 bundle, use the formula D^2L/162 × no. of rods in one bundle to figure out weight or mass for 1 bundle rod in kg, where D is the diameter of steel rod and L is the full length for 12 meter and numerical figure 162 is the thumb rule number which is derived and there are 20 pieces of 6mm, 10 pieces of 8mm, 7 pieces of 10mm, 5 pieces of 12mm, 3 pieces of 16mm, 2 pieces of 20mm and 1 pieces of 25mm steel Rod’s are in one bundle. For example 12mm steel rod weight per bundle = D^2L/162× no of pieces, (12×12×12) ÷ 162 × 5 = 53.33kgs, hence 53.33 kg is the weight of 12mm steel rod per bundle.
Rod weight per bundle
Generally we use the formula D^2L/162 × no of pieces to calculate weight of rod or steel bar per bundle of full length of 12 meter in kg.
The typical weight of a 6mm steel rod is about 53.33 kgs per bundle, 8mm rod is 47 kg per bundle, 10mm rod is 53 kg per bundle, 12mm rod is 53.34 kg per bundle, 16mm rod weighs 56.88 kg per bundle, 20mm rod weighs 59.2 kg per bundle, 25mm rod weighs 46.2 kg per bundle, 32mm rod weighs 75.84 kg per bundle and 40mm rod weighs 118.52 kg per bundle. This is theoretical weight of rod per bundle.
6mm steel rod weight per bundle
The typical weight of a 6mm steel rod is approximately 53kg per bundle. The 6 mm TMT bars bundle comprises 20 individual bars, which weighs 53 kg per bundle. Using the formula D^2L/162 × no of pieces to calculate rod weight per bundle. Maths calculation such as 6mm steel rod weight per bundle = D^2L/162 = (6×6×12) ÷ 162 × 20 = 53.33 kgs/ bundle, hence 53.33 kg is the weight of 6mm steel rod per bundle.
8mm steel rod weight per bundle
The typical weight of a 8mm steel rod is approximately 47kg per bundle. The 8 mm TMT bars bundle comprises 10 individual bars, which weighs 47 kg per bundle. Using the formula D^2L/ 162 × no of pieces to calculate rod weight per bundle. Maths calculation such as 8mm steel rod weight per bundle = D^2L/162 = (8×8×12) ÷ 162 × 10 = 47 kgs/ bundle, hence 47 kg is the weight of 8mm steel rod per bundle.
10mm steel rod weight per bundle
The typical weight of a 10mm steel rod is approximately 53kg per bundle. The 10 mm TMT bars bundle comprises 7 individual bars, which weighs 53 kg per bundle. Using the formula D^2L/162 × no of pieces to calculate rod weight per bundle. Maths calculation such as 10mm steel rod weight per bundle = D^2L/162 = (10×10×12) ÷ 162 × 7 = 53 kgs/ bundle, hence 53 kg is the weight of 10mm steel rod per bundle.
