Rebar is short form of reinforcing bar, it is steel bar or Steel wire provided as tension bar, used in reinforced concrete structure like column, beam and slab of house construction and it also used in reinforced masonry structure. It is used to increase the tensile strength of concrete structure.

Reinforcing bar/rebar surface is often deformed with ribs to promote a better bonding with concrete material and reduce the risk of slippage. The most common Reinforcing bar/rebar is carbon steel of hot rolled round bar with the deformation patterns, the Steel rebar may be also coated with epoxy resin material, design to resist effect of corrosion mostly in saltwater environment.

US based steel/ reinforcing bar sizes and their diameter, as we know that different countries in the world have their own gradation, specification of Steel and record of measurement for reinforcing bar. First remember that rebar is measured differentially in United States and Europe. while the United states, it uses the Imperial measurement system. Europe and most of rest of world uses the metric system.

In this article we briefly explain “what is the weight of number 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rebar per meter” based on Imperial measurement system. This will help to viewers in better understanding and it is easy to choose the most suitable rebar you wanted according to requirement.

Imperial rebar size/ Reinforcing bar size

US/ imperial rebar sizes gives the diameter in units of 1/8 inch (3.2mm), for bar sizes #2 to #10 we use this formula, for example size of number 2 (#2) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 2×1/8 inch = 0.25 inch or 6mm,

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 2.5 rebar, also read as No. 2.5 rebar or #2.5 rebar. size of number 2.5 (#2.5) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 2.5×1/8 inch = 0.3125 inch or 8mm.

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 3 rebar, also read as No. 3 rebar or #3 rebar. size of number 3 (#3) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 3×1/8 inch = 3/8 inch or 10mm, therefore size of number 3 rebar in metric system is about 10mm.

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 4 rebar, also read as No. 4 rebar or #4 rebar. size of number 4 (#4) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 4×1/8 inch = 1/2 inch or 12mm, therefore size of number 4 rebar in metric system is about 12mm.

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 5 rebar, also read as No. 5 rebar or #5 rebar. size of number 5 (#5) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 5×1/8 inch = 5/8 inch or 16mm, therefore size of number 6 rebar in metric system is about 16mm.

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 6 rebar, also read as No. 6 rebar or #6 rebar. size of number 6 (#6) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 6×1/8 inch = 3/4 inch or 20mm, therefore size of number 6 rebar in metric system is about 20mm.

US/ Imperial steel rebar/ reinforcing bar available in size number 7 rebar, also read as No. 7 rebar or #7 rebar. size of number 7 (#7) rebar is of 1/8 inch in metric system measurement, such that 7×1/8 inch = 7/8 inch or 22mm, therefore size of number 7 rebar in metric system is about 22mm.

What is the weight of number 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rebar per meter

The size of the rebar/ Reinforcing bar used in construction work in number 3 rebar (10mm), number 4 rebar (12mm), number 5 rebar (16mm), number 6 rebar (20mm), number 8 rebar (25mm), number 9 rebar (28mm) and number 10 rebar (32mm).

To find the weight of rebar/reinforcing bar per meter in length you have to just apply a simple formula – (Diameter)*(Diameter) / 162.5 Kg/meter or D^2/162.5, where D is diameter of rebar in mm.

Weight of number 2.5 rebar or 8 mm rebar per meter will be (8×8)/162.5 = 0.39 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 3 (#3) rebar or 10 mm rebar per meter will be (10×10)/162.5= 0.61 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 4 (#4) rebar or 12 mm rebar per meter will be (12×12)/162.5= 0.88 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 5 (#5) rebar or 16 mm rebar per meter will be =(16×16)/162.5= 1.58 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 6 (#6) rebar or 20 mm rebar per meter will be (20×20)/162.5 = 2.46 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 7 (#7) rebar or 22 mm rebar per meter will be (22×22)/162.5= 2.97 kg/ meter.

Weight of number 8 rebar or 25 mm rebar per meter will be (25×25)/162.5= 3.85kg/meter.

Weight of number 9 (#9) rebar or 28mm rebar per meter will be (28×28)/162.5= 4.824 kg/meter.

Weight of number 10 (#10) or 32 mm rebar per meter will be (32×32)/162.5= 6.30 kg/meter.

Weight of number 11 (#11) rebar or 36 mm rebar per meter will be (36×36)/162.5= 7.97 kg/meter.
