The choice of reinforcement bar (rebar) size for a building depends on various factors such as the structural design, load-bearing requirements, and local building codes. Commonly used rebar sizes for residential buildings include #3 (10mm), #4 (12mm), and #5 (16mm) bars.
Commonly used rebar sizes for different storey buildings include:
1. 1 Storey Building: Typically, smaller diameter rebars like 10mm or 12mm might be suitable, depending on the specific design requirements.
2. 2 Storey Building: For increased load-bearing capacity, a mix of 12mm and 16mm rebars could be appropriate.
3. 3 Storey Building: Larger diameter rebars, such as 16mm and 20mm, may be used to accommodate the additional load.

People might be in confusion which type of reinforcement/ steel bar is best for using in RCC structural member like footing, column, beam and slab of your residential and commercial building. In this article we talk about use of different size of steel bar in different RCC structure for 1 storey (G+0), 2 storey (G+1) and 3 storey (G+2)building.
Sizes of reinforcement/steel bar used in different RCC member are determined on the basis of architectural drawing & designing for 1, 2 and 3 storey residential building. If you want to design for residential building structure and where the height of building is not more than 30m and spacing of columns are 3m to 5m, not more than 5m, you can do it by using thumb rule.
When we draw design for rcc structure for residential 1st storey (G+0), 2 storey (G+1) and 3 storey (G+2) building you have to also check the, live load, soil type, dead load, bearing capacity of soil, vertical load, horizontal load, slenderness ratio, deflection of beam etc. as per I.S. Code guidelines.
