1 square meter of a single brick wall contains 60** ****modular** **bricks** measuring 200 × 100 × 100 mm and a double brick wall contains 120 bricks. To calculate number of bricks per sq. m, divide area of brick wall by surface area of one brick with mortar and add 20% wastage such as 1m2/ 0.02m2 = 50 bricks. Total bricks 50 + 20% of 50= 60 bricks. Typical 4 inch masonry requires 60** bricks** per square meter and a typical 9 inch masonry requires 120 bricks per square meter.

Consider a brick wall with 10 feet in length, 10 feet in height and 4 inch in thickness, volume of brick masonry in wall = 10×10×4/12= 33 CF, volume of one brick with mortar = 8″×4″×4″ = 128 in^3 or 0.074 CF, number of bricks = volume of brick masonry/ volume of one brick = 33 CF ÷ 0.074 CF = 445 bricks, thus, number of bricks required per cubic feet is 13.5 nos bricks and thus, number of bricks required per cubic yard is 365 nos bricks.
