We have choice to use tiles and marble for surface flooring, mostly tiles are used for bathroom toilet and kitchen. Due to smoothness and wide range of variety of attractive tiles available in market we use tiles for flooring.

Large format tiles lend a more spacious look to space. It is advised to match tiles to room size. If the room is small, and you use large size tiles on the floor, then the room will look even smaller.

Tiles these days comes in a wide range of sizes. Some popular sizes for floors include (300×600) mm, (600×600) mm, (610×610) mm and (800×800) mm. Wall tiles generally come in sizes of (250×350) mm, (300×450) mm, and (300×600) mm. If you measure tile size in inches, there are wide range of tiles comes such as 12×12, 16×16, 24×24, 20×20, 18×18 and 12×24.

For example, if you wanted to use 20 X 20 inch tile pieces, which equals 2.78 sq. ft, and the total square footage of your room is 100 sq ft, then you would divide 100 by 2.78, which would equal 36 pieces.

How many square feet is a 20×20 tile? for clarification, (1) 20×20 tile covers 2.78 square foot such as (20″×20″)/ 144 = 2.78 sq ft, and the term “20×20” actually refers to the length and width of the tile in inches.

For a 100 square foot tile project, you will need to install a total of 36 20×20 tiles. But some tiles could be damaged during transport or installation or maybe otherwise unusable. It’s customary to purchase an additional 15 percent above the exact calculated amount of tile. 36 (20×20 tiles) times 15% equals 42 tiles.

The extra tiles will help ensure that you have enough tiles on hand to finish the project even if some of the tiles you purchased cannot be installed for any reason.

If you choose 20×20 (20 by 20 inch) tiles, each tile would cover 2.78 square feet (200 / 144). If the area of your wall or floor is 100 square feet, you would need 36 tiles at minimum to cover the area (100 / 2.78 = 36).

For a 100 square foot tile project, you will need to install a total of 36 20×20 tiles. Extra tiles needed 15% of total such as 15℅ of 36 = 6, add this 36 +6 = 42. Thus, approximately 42 pieces of 20×20 tiles you needed to cover 100 square feet area of room or patio.

To figure how many 20×20 tiles do i need for 100 square feet, lets do the calculation to proceeds:

Step 1:- Calculate the square footage of 20×20 tiles, thus, square footage of one tile = (20×20)/ 144 = 2.78 sq ft

Step 2:- To get number of tiles for your projects, divide your project area (100 sq ft) by square footage of one tile i.e 100/ 2.78 = 36 tiles

Step 3:- Always take 15% extra tiles for wastage or any mishaps, 15% of 36 = 6, so, add this 36+6 = 42, you can get 42 total pieces of tiles you would need.
