If you want to use ready made wood door frame, it has better option to installed a pre-hung door. A prehung door is a lightweight, ready to use made of wood or either fiberglass.

A prehung door is a unit that comes with hardware and a frame, ready to be installed into a doorway. These doors and jambs must still be carefully adjusted to account for shortcomings in the wall frame.

When shopping for doors, you will encounter two entirely different types: a pre-hung door (includes a frame) and a slab door (does not include a frame). This contrast mainly comes to light when you want to purchase and install the door by yourself.

Getting the rough opening size right the first time, will save you from tension, when installing your pre-hung doors. Framing rough opening sizes are really quite simple. just and add 2 1/2″ inch to the width and add 2-1/4″ to the height of the actual width and height of door respectively.

Rough openings as the size of the opening before the finished lumber has been added to the jambs. Before you add your framing, the rough opening should be larger than the door size you’ve chosen. For a 36 inches wide pre-hung door, the rough opening will be 38 1/2 inches wide.

Pre-hung Door widths which are considered standard usually come in sizes of 2/6 (30”), 2/8 (32”) and 3/0 (36”). Standard door heights are 6/6 (78”) and 6/8 (80”).

A 36” x 80” pre-hung single door will use a rough opening of approximately 38-1/2” x 82-1/4” to fit. Always remember to square up your door before you nail the frame in place to assure it will close properly.

The rough opening for a pre-hung door frame should be 2 1/2″ wider and 2 1/4″ taller than actual door dimension (width and height). So, the rough opening for a 30 inch pre-hung door should be 32 1/2 inches wide. Rough opening height of pre-hung door should be 2 1/4″ more than actual height.
