Steel calculation for beam and beam reinforcement detail

Steel calculation for beam and beam reinforcement detail, hi guys in this article we know about steel calculation for beam and beam reinforcement detail. In this calculation we have to find out steel weight. We know that beam is flexural a structure member of building providing support to slab and the dead and live load horizontaly acting on beam and it safely transfer this load to column.

Beam reinforcement detail

We have given beam reinforcement detail for simply supported beam having clear span of 4000 mm and having lateral dimension is 300 × 450 mm and main bar of T16 mm of 2 nos and distribution bar of T12 of two nos and stirrup dia of 10 mm having spacing 100 mm at end point in L/3 and 150 mm spacing at mid point. Considering development length of beam is 50d and hook length of steel is 10d and concrete cover in beam is 30 mm.

Steel calculation for beam

In this calculation reinforcement detail of beam we have to calculate weight of main reinforcement and weight of distribution rebar and weight of stirrup for getting Total weight of Steel required for beam

1) weight calculation of tension rebar

Cutting length of main rebar = clear span + development length _ bend deduction

We have clear span = 4000 mm

Development length Ld = 50d

Total development length =2Ld (taken for both sides)

Bend deduction = 2×2d

Cutting length = 4000 + 2(50×16) _(2×2×16) mm

Cutting length of main rebar = 5536 mm = 5.536 meter

Number of nos of tension steel = 2 nos

So total cutting length = 5.536 ×2 = 11.072m

We have formula for Unit Weight of Steel is = (d ^2 /162) ×L

Weight of steel = (16×16/162)×11.072 kg

Weight of main reinforcement = 17.496 kg

2) weight calculation of top rebar

Cutting length of top rebar = clear span + development length _ bend deduction

We have clear span = 4000 mm

Development length Ld = 50d

Total development length =2Ld (taken for both sides)

Bend deduction = 2×2d

Cutting length = 4000 + 2(50×12) _(2×2×12) mm

Cutting length of top rebar = 5152 mm = 5.152 meter

Number of nos of top steel = 2 nos

So total cutting length = 5.152 ×2 = 10.304 m

We have formula for Unit Weight of Steel is = (d ^2 /162) ×L

Weight of steel = (12×12/162)×10.304 kg

Weight of top rebar reinforcement = 9.159 kg

3) cutting length of stirrup

Cutting length = 2(A+B) +hook length _ bend

First we should calculate cutting length of stirrup then calculate number of stirrup required at end position and at mid position

length of stirrup in horizontal direction

length of stirrup = width of beam _ 2 effective cover

Length of stirrup in A = 300 _(2×30)_(2× half dia of main rebar)

Length of stirrup in A = 300 _60 _(2×16/2) mm

Length of stirrup in A = 224 mm

length of stirrup in vertical direction

length of stirrup = height of beam _ 2 effective cover

Length of stirrup in B = 450 _(2×30)_(2× half dia of top bar)

Length of stirrup in B = 450 _60 _(2×12/2) mm

Length of stirrup in B = 378 mm

Hook length = 2 ×10 d

Hook length = 2×10×10 = 200 mm

Bend deduction = (2×3d) +(3×2d)

Stirrup have 2 bend of 135° and 3 bend of 90° for 135 degree we take 3d and for 90 degree we take 2d

Bend deduction = 12d = 12×10 = 120 mm

Cutting length = 2(A+B) +hook length _ band

Cutting length = 2( 224 +378)+200_120 mm

Cutting length of stirrup = 1284 mm

4) number of stirrup at both end spacing 100 mm and clear span = 4000 mm

For the length L/3

Length = 4000/3 = 1333.33 mm

No of stirrup = length/spacing + 1

no of stirrup = (1333.33/100) +1

No of stirrup = 14 nos

Number of stirrup for both end = 14×2=28

5) no of stirrup at mid of span having spacing 150 mm

Length of mid of span = 4000_(2×1333.33)

Length = 1333.33 mm

No of stirrup = length/spacing + 1

no of stirrup = (1333.33/150) +1

No of stirrup = 10 nos

Number of stirrup for mid span = 10 nos

6) total number of stirrup = 28+10=38 nos

No of stirrup = 38 nos

Cutting length = 1284 mm

Total length of stirrup = 38×1284 mm

Total length of stirrup =48792 mm

Total length of stirrup = 48.792 meter

7) weight calculation of stirrup

Dia of stirrup = 10 mm

Total length = 48.792 meter

Weight = (10×10)/162×48.792 kg

Weight of stirrup = 30.118 Kg

8) Total weight of reinforcement for beam

Weight of main rebar = 17.496 Kg

Weight of top rebar = 9.159 Kg

Weight of stirrup = 30.118 kg

Total weight of reinforcement for beam = 56.77 Kg

Steel calculation for beam = 57 Kg
