Mortar is mixture of cement, sand and water for making as paste, this paste is used in bricks laying, tiles installation and plastering. In ancient periods, when cement was not discovered, in place of cement the lime are used as adhesive and binding material. Lime mortar are made by mixture of lime and aggregate such as sand with water. But in modern time lime mortar is created by mixing of cement lime and sand in required proportion.

To achieve higher strength and durability of any structure, the building material like cement, sand aggregate and water are mix in required proportion to make paste as mortar. Generally mortar mix would be 3 to 6 parts of aggregate as sand and 1 parts is cement. Mixture should be not too wet and too dry.

For preparing standard mortar mix made of cement and sand, normally mix ratio for mortar is 1: 6, in which 1 parts is cement and 6 part is aggregate as sand. **Mix ratio for lime mortar**

In ancient time lime mortar are made of mixture of lime, sand and water, their mix ratio should be kept 1: 3, in which 1 parts is lime as binder material and 3 parts is sand being used. There is a lots of voids are present between the particles of sand, generally 1/3 volume of sand is voids, to fill the gape between the particles, lime are mixed with sand and water to achieve higher strength and durability of structure.

**Cement lime mortar mix ratio**

For higher strength and durable structure, cement lime mortar mix are used. Cement lime mortar are composed of cement, lime, sand and water. Generally their mix ratio would be 1: 0.25: 3 (cement: lime: sand), in which 1 parts is cement, 0.25 is lime and 3 parts is washed, well graded, sharp sand mix with water.

Tile mortar prepare by mix of cement and sand, used for installation and fixing of wall and floor tiles, generally mix ratio for tile mortar is 1: 3 (cement: sand), in which 1 part is cement mix with 3 parts of well graded and sharp sand. Concrete is one of the most important building material used in civil construction made of mixture of cement, sand, aggregate and water in required proportion. It is used to make concrete slab and others concreting structure.

Generally, mix ratio for concrete slab is 1: 2: 4 (cement: sand: aggregate), this mix ratio for concrete slab is made of 1 part cement : 2 parts sand : 4 parts coarse aggregate, and this concrete must be placed within half an hour of mixing.
