Aggregate or stone chips or gravel are used in Building, Bridge, dams Construction aggregate, or simply aggregate, is a broad category of coarse- to medium-grained particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates. Aggregates are the most mined materials in the world.

Generally fine aggregate consist of sand silt clay and coarse aggregate consists fine gravel medium gravel coarse gravel pebbles cobbles and boulders.

Fine aggregate having size less than 4.75 mm and coarse aggregate size ranging between more than 4.75 mm to 256 mm.

All types of aggregates measured in cubic metre and cubic feet and ton at construction site and we have know about how to convert 1 ton aggregate into cubic metre and 1 cubic metre aggregate into to kilogram and ton. Because it will be sometime sell & purchase in per ton and other in per cubic metre(m3) or CFT. sometime when we go through the interview and facing questions it will ask how 1 ton aggregate to cubic meter and also 1 ton aggregate in m3 used for billing purpose.

We know that while finding the bulk density of different types of aggregate their value is not fixed but it depends on handling how you can handle the aggregate. So density of aggregate is not fix but it ranging between 1420 kg/m3 to 1680 kg/m3.

Weight of aggregate in kilogram depends on density of aggregate and size of aggregate. Lesser dimension of aggregate have high density due to less presence of air voids & higher dimension of aggregate have lower density due to higher presence of air voids.

Density of 10mm, 20mm and 40mm aggregate ranging between 1420 kg/m3 to 1680 kg/m3, consider density of 10mm, 20mm & 40mm aggregate is equal to 1680 kg/m3, 1550kg/m3 & 1450 kg/m3 respectively. it means weight of 1 cubic metre of 10mm size aggregate is equal to 1680 kgs, weight of 1 cubic metre of 20mm size aggregate is equal to 1550 kgs & weight of 1 cubic metre of 40mm size aggregate is equal to 1450 kgs.

Convert tonne to m3 aggregate:- generally 1 tonne of aggregate equates as 1000kg and 1 m3 of aggregate weighs around 1500 kg, so covert tonne to m3 aggregate such as 1000/ 1500 = 0.66 tonnes, hence you can use aggregate tonne to m3 calculator as 1 tonne aggregate = 0.66 m3.

Convert m3 to tonnes aggregate:- generally 1 cubic metre of aggregate weighs around 1500 kg and 1 tonne of aggregate equates as 1000kg, so convert m3 to tonnes aggregate such as 1500/ 1000 = 1.5 tonnes, hence you can use aggregate m3 to tonnes calculator as 1m3 aggregate = 1.5 tonnes.

20mm aggregate m3 to tonnes:- generally 1 cubic metre of 20mm aggregate weighs around 1550 kg and 1 tonne of aggregate equates as 1000kg, so 20mm aggregate m3 to tonnes such as 1550/ 1000 = 1.55 tonnes, hence you can use 20mm aggregate m3 to tonnes calculator as 1m3 aggregate = 1.55 tonnes.

How many cubic metres in a tonne of gravel

How many cubic meters in a tonne of gravel? There are approximately 0.5 to 0.6 cubic meters in a tonne of gravel. A cubic meter of typical dry gravel has a weight about 1,680 kilograms or 1.68 tonnes and wet gravel weighs 2002 kg, and metric tonne is 1000 kg, so number of cubic metres in a tonne of gravel = 1000÷1680 = 0.6m3 or 1000÷2000 = 0.5m3. Thus, there are 0.6 cubic meters in a tonne of dry gravel and 0.5 cubic metres in a tonne of wet gravel. A square meter of gravel with a depth of 5 cm weighs about 84 kg or 0.084 tonnes.

How much does a cubic metre of gravel weigh

A cubic meter of typical gravel weighs between 1,680 to 2002 kilograms or 1.68 to 2 metric tonnes. 1/4″ to 2″ (10mm, 20mm, 40mm) size of Dry gravel weighs about 1680 kg or 1.68 tonnes, wet gravel weighs about 2002 kg or 2 metric tonnes, and Gravel with natural sand weighs about 1922 kg or 1.92 metric tonnes.

Notes:- this is theoretical concept but value of aggregate or sand in m3 to tonnes or tonnes to m3 might be vary case to case. Generally sand and aggregate or gravel sold in a Jumbo or bulk bag or simply loose tonnes bag that’s volume is nearly around 0.5m3 (cubic meter).

Conclusion:-

Formula to convert 1 tonne of 10mm, 20mm and 40mm aggregate (stone) to m3 (Cubic meter), Aggregate weight to m3 = Tonnes of Aggregate × 0.66 m3.

There are 0.5 to 0.6 cubic metres in a tonne of gravel. One tonne of dry gravel yields 0.6 m3 and wet gravel yields 0.5 m3. A cubic meter of typical dry gravel of sizes 1/4″ to 2″ weighs 1,680 kilograms or 1.68 tonnes. A cubic meter of typical wet gravel of sizes 1/4″ to 2″ weighs 2,002 kilograms or 2 metric tonnes.
