1m3 of concrete material cement sand aggregate and water

1m3 of concrete material cement sand aggregate and water, 1m3 of concrete is made up of 403Kg of cement, 706Kg of sand, 1,302Kg of stone chips or aggregate and 150 Litres of water. The mix design process can either be conducted on the basis of charts or experimentally.

We have m20 grade of concrete in which M is stand for mix and numerical figure 20 is stand for characteristics of compressive strength of concrete after casting of 28 days with curing with water.

M20 concrete mix ratio is 1:1.5:3 made of mixture of cement, sand, aggregate and water in which 1 part is cement, 1.5 part is sand and 3 part is aggregate. Sum of ratio 1+ 1.5 +3 = 5.5, part of cement =1/5.5, part of sand=1.5/5.5 and part of aggregate = 3/5.5.

Quantity of material of 1m3 concrete first we know different density of material which help in calculation. Density of cement is 1440kg/m3, density of sand is 1680kg/m3 and density of stone chips or aggregate is 1550kg/m3.

Dry volume of concrete: 1m3 is wet volume of concrete, we have to find out dry volume of concrete, dry volume of concrete = wet volume × 1.54 = 1 × 1.54 = 1.54m3.

Cement quantity for 1m3 of m20 concrete: part of cement= 1/5.5, density of cement =1440kg/m3, dry volume = 1.54m3, weight = volume × density, weight of cement = 1/5.5×1.54m3 ×1440 kg/m3 = 403kg, so 403kg cement is required for 1m3 of M20 grade of concrete.

Sand quantity for 1m3 of M20 concrete: part of sand = 1.5/5.5, density of sand = 1680kg/m3, dry volume = 1.54m3, weight = volume × density, weight of sand = 1.5/5.5×1.54m3 ×1680 kg/m3 = 706kg, so 706kg sand is required for 1m3 of M20 grade of concrete.

Aggregate quantity for 1m3 of M20 concrete: part of aggregate = 3/5.5, density of aggregate = 1550kg/m3, dry volume = 1.54m3, weight = volume × density, weight of aggregate = 3/5.5×1.54m3 ×1550 kg/m3 = 1302kg, so 1302kg aggregate is required for 1m3 of M20 grade of concrete.

Water quantity for 1m3 of m20 concrete

Technically speaking as per studies cement requires 23% of water for the hydration process and and 15% for expansion of pores and volume increment therefore 38% of the water by weight of cement is minimum and must if it’s less than that complete hydration is not possible. cement and water used as per their ratio is called water cement ratio.
