brickwork :- first we should need familiar with brickwork, it is Laying of brick one another above by using cement mortar as binding or adhesive material. Brickwork is used for construction of house wall, water tank reservoir, boundary wall retaining wall and for many purpose in civil construction.

mortar thickness :- cement and sand mix is known as cement mortar, mortar thickness will be 10 mm to 12 mm in brickwork. It is good thickness for gaining high strength of brickwork. More or less than above mention size of mortar thickness will decrease the strength of brickwork.

brick wall size:- we know that there is two size of brick wall size is used worldwide one is being 9 inch wall and second one is being 4 inch wall. But in this calculation I have taken cement and sand for brickwork of 9 inch wall.

#### How to calculate cement and sand for brickwork

Step 1 Given:-

Modular brick size = (190×90×90) mm

Mortar thickness = 10 mm

Mortar ratio = 1:6

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3

Assume volume of brickwork = 1m3

Step 2 Solve :-

Volume of one brick with mortar

= 0.2 × 0.1×0.1 m3 = 0.2 m3

Therefore number of bricks required for 1 cubic metre = 1/0.002 = 500 nos

Hence 500 nos bricks are present in 1 cubic metre of brickwork

Now volume of one brick without mortar

= 0.19 ×0.09 ×0.09 m3 = 0.001539 m3

So volume of 500 bricks

= 500×0.001539 m3 = 0.7695 m3

When we subtract volume of 500 brick from volume of 1 cubic metre brickwork we will get volume of mortar

Volume of mortar = 1m3_0.7695m3
Volume of mortar =0.2305 m3

This is volume of mortar in wet condition we should calculate dry volume of mortar multiply cofactor 1.33 in wet volume of mortar to get dry volume

Dry volume = wet volume × 1.33

Dry volume = 0.2305×1.33 =0.306565 m3

■Cement calculation in brickwork

Mortar ratio = 1:6

Total proportion = 1+ 6 = 7

Part of cement = 1/7

Weight = volume × density

Weight of cement in kg

W = (1/7) 0.306565 m3×1440 kg/m3

Weight of cement= 63 kg
One bag cement = 50 kg

Number of bag cement = 63/50 = 1.26

sand calculation in brickwork

Mortar ratio = 1:6

Total proportion = 1+ 6 = 7

Part of sand = 6/7

1 m3 = 35.32 cft

Volume of sand =( 6/7)0.306565×35.32 cft

Volume of sand = 9.28 cuft

So number of brick, quantity of cement and sand required for 1 cubic metre of brickwork is following

1) number of bricks = 500 nos

2) cement bag = 1.26 bags

3) sand quantity = 9.28 cuft
