M stand for mix and number indicates the comprehensive strength of concrete in curing time of 28 days.comprehensive strength of M20 grade of concrete is 20N/mm2 and comprehensive strength of m25 grade of concrete is 25 N/mm2.

**◆ concrete ratio in M20 :**– ratio of cement sand and aggregate in M20 mix is ( 1: 1.5 : 3) one part is cement 1.5 part is sand and three part is aggregate.

◆ **Concrete ratio in M25**:- ratio of cement sand and aggregate in M25 mix is ( 1: 1 : 2) one part is cement 1part is sand and 2 part is aggregate.

Note:- 1) upto 3 floor building we can use M20 grade of concrete

2) for high rise building structure we can use m25 grade of concrete

■ **Steel bar calculation :**– in roof slab there are two types of Steel bar is used one is main bar and second one is cross bar.

1) **main bar :-** 12 mm diameter of Steel Bar used as main bar . it is shortist span bar usually used at bottom of slab having spacing 4 inch between the two bar and also main bar used in shorter direction.

2) **cross bar :**– 10 mm diameter of Steel used as cross bar ,it is also called longer span or distribution bar are used at top of the main Bar .cross bar is used in longer direction having Centre to Centre spacing is 5 inches between two bar.

**Concrete quantity calculation for 1600 sqft slab**

◆ **given dimension :-**

Thickness of slab = 5″

Length of slab = 50′

Width of slab = 32′

Area of slab = 50′ × 32′ = 1600 sq. ft

Wet volume = area of slab× thickness

1 feet = 12 inches

Wet volume = 1600 sq. ft× 5/12 ft

Wet volume = 666.67 cu.ft

if you want to convert into cubic meter you should divide by 35.32

1 m3 = 35.32 cu. ft

Wet volume = 666.67/35.32 = 18.9m3

◆ **Dry volume :-** we know that wet volume have air Bubbles and water it can be removed by vibrator or compressor machine

so more quantity of cement sand and aggregate is required and dry volume is increased by 54% of wet volume so we can multiply cofactor 1.54 in wet volume to calculate dry volume

Dry volume = 18.9 m3× 1.54 = 29m3

**Steel reinforcement required for slab of 1600 square feet**

According to Thumb Rule for slab quantity of steel required for slab is about 0.5% to 1% of dry volume of concrete than we take average is 0.75% dry volume of concrete.

Density of steel = 7850 kg/m3

Weight of steel = volume × density

Weight of steel = 0.75/100×(29m3×7850kg/m3)

Weight of steel = 1707 kg

So weight of Steel bar is required for 1600 square feet roof slab is = 1707 kg

If market rate of steel bar is rs 60 per kg, but it will be very according to quality and brand rs 5 to 10 up and down

Total cost of steel = 1707× 60

Total cost of steel = rs 102440

** quantity of cement sand and aggregate in M20 grade of concrete**

Ratio in M20 grade = 1:1.5:3

Total proportion = 1+ 1.5+3 = 5.5

Part of cement = 1/5.5

Part of sand = 1.5/5.5

Part of aggregate = 3/5.5

**quantity of cement in M20 grade of concrete for 1600 sq. ft slab**

Weight = volume × density

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3

Weight = (1× 29 m3× 1440 kg/m3)/5.5

Weight of cement = 7292 kg

1 bag cement = 50 kg

No of bags cement = 7292/50 = 152

If market rate of cement bag is rs 350

Than total cost = 152× rs 350

Total cost of cement = rs 53200

Part of sand in m20 = 1.5/5.5

1 m3 = 35.32 cuft

Volume of sand in cu. ft

= 1.5/5.5( 29× 35.32) = 280 cuft

Market rate of sand vary according to location and availability rs 40 -80 per cubic feet

If rate of sand is rs 60 per cft than

Total cost of sand = 280 × rs 60

Total cost of sand = rs 16800

Part of aggregates in m20 = 3/5.5

Volume of aggregate in cft

Volume = (3/5.5)× 29×35.32

Volume of aggregates = 560 cft

Total cost of aggregates = rs 39200

If labour cost is rs 50 per sq. ft
