As we know that steel is load bearing material are used in construction line in field of industrial construction work, building construction, formation of bridge and dams superstructure of Industrial and commercial building, residential building and many types of construction in civil engineering.

Many of us want to know how much weight of Steel bars require for house construction, we make approximate estimate and cost before starting construction by knowing 1 peice steel weight, length of Steel rod, number of Steel in one bundle, weight of Steel bar per foot and weight of Steel bar per metre.

Length of one TMT bar is approximately 12 metre or 40 feet, this help in calculation of steel weight.

Number of TMT bar present in one bundle of different size 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm and 20mm. 8mm size of TMT bar have 10 number of Steel in one bundle, 10mm size of TMT bar have 7 number of Steel in one bundle, 12mm size of TMT bar have 5 peice of rods in one bundle, 16 mm size of Steel bar have 3 piece of rods in one bundle and 20mm size of Steel bar have 2 piece of rods in one bundle.

**Calculation of weight of Steel bars**

calculation of weight of Steel bars we used formula for Unit Weight of Steel. Unit Weight of steel is define as weight of Steel bars per metre in kg or per foot in kg. So we used two formula calculation of steel weight.

Steel weight calculation formula per metre in kg or per foot in kg help you to find weight of one bundle of Steel bar and weight of one piece of Steel.

**The formula we are using for steel weight calculation are following:-**

● 1) D^2 L/162 :- this formula are used for weight of Steel bars per metre in kg (m/kg)

● 2) D^2 L/533 :- this formula are used for weight of Steel bars per feet in kg (ft/kg).

Where D = diameter of Steel bar and L is length of Steel bar and numerical figure 162 used for weight per metre in kg and 533 used for weight per foot in kg.

Let us now discuss various size of Steel bar weight per foot and per metre.

**8mm Steel rod weight in kg**

Calculating 8mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162. We know that 8mm dia of Steel bar have 10 number of Steel in one bundle and length of one piece of rod is 12 m.

**8mm Steel rod weight per metre in kg**

Calculating 8mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 8mm, length of rods = 1 meter, then weight of 8 mm steel rod per meter = (8×8×1)/162 = 0.395 kgs, so 8mm Steel rod per metre is 0.395 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.395 is weight of 8mm Steel rod per metre in kg.

**Weight of 1 piece of 8mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 8mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 8mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, then weight of 1 piece of 8 mm steel rod in kg = (8×8×12)/162 = 4.74 kgs, so weight of 1 piece 8mm Steel rod is 4.74 kgs.

● Ans :- 4.74 Kg is weight of 1 piece (12m) 8mm Steel rod.

**Weight of 1 bundle of 8mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 8mm Steel rod weight we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 8mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, number of steel in 1 bundle = 10,then weight of 1 bundle of 8 mm steel rod in kg = (8×8×12×10)/162 = 47.4 kgs, so weight of 1 bundle 8mm Steel rod is 47.4 kgs.

● Ans :- 47.4 Kg is weight of 1 bundle (10 nos) 8mm Steel rod.

**8mm Steel rod weight per feet in kg**

Calculating 8mm Steel rod weight per foot we used the formula D^2 L/533

If dia of steel = 8mm, length of rods = 1 feet, then weight of 8 mm steel rod per feet = (8×8×1)/533 = 0.12 kgs, so 8mm Steel rod per feet is 0.12 kgs, for length = 40 feet, so weight of 40 feet or 1piece steel rod = (8×8×40)/533 = 4.803 kgs, 1 bundle = 10 nos, so weight of 1 bundle of 8mm steel rod = (8×8×40×10)/533 = 48.03 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.12 is weight of 8mm Steel rod per feet in kg,4.803 Kgs and 48.03 kgs weight of 1 piece and 1 bundle of 8mm steel rod respectively.

**● summary :-** 1) 8mm steel rod weight per meter is 0.395 kgs

2) 8mm steel rod weight per feet is 0.12 kgs

3) 1 piece 8mm steel rod weight is 4.74 kgs

4) 1 bundle (10 nos) 8mm steel rod weight is 47.4 kgs.

**10mm Steel rod weight in kg**

Calculating 10mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162 and per foot D^2 L/162. We know that 10mm dia of Steel bar have 7 number of Steel in one bundle and length of one piece of rod is 12 m.

**10mm Steel rod weight per metre in kg**

Calculating 10mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 10mm, length of rods = 1 meter, then weight of 10mm steel rod per meter = (10×10×1)/162 = 0.617 kgs, so 10mm Steel rod per metre is 0.617 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.617 is weight of 10mm Steel rod per metre in kg.

**Weight of 1 piece of 10mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 10mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 10mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, then weight of 1 piece of 10mm steel rod in kg = (10×10×12)/162 = 7.407 kgs, so weight of 1 piece 10mm Steel rod is 7.407 kgs.

● Ans :- 7.407 Kg is weight of 1 piece (12m) 10mm Steel rod.

**Weight of 1 bundle of 10mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 10mm Steel rod weight we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 10mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, number of steel in 1 bundle = 7,then weight of 1 bundle of 10mm steel rod in kg = (10×10×12×7)/162 = 51.85 kgs, so weight of 1 bundle 10mm Steel rod is 51.85 kgs.

● Ans :- 51.85 Kg is weight of 1 bundle (7 nos) 10mm Steel rod.

**10mm Steel rod weight per feet in kg**

Calculating 10mm Steel rod weight per foot we used the formula D^2 L/533

If dia of steel = 10mm, length of rods = 1 feet, then weight of 10 mm steel rod per feet = (10×10×1)/533 = 0.1876 kgs/ft, so 10mm Steel rod per feet is 0.1876 kgs, for length = 40 feet, so weight of 40 feet or 1piece steel rod = (10×10×40)/533 = 7.505 kgs, 1 bundle = 7 nos, so weight of 1 bundle of 10mm steel rod = (10×10×40×7)/533 = 52.53 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.1876 is weight of 10mm Steel rod per feet in kg,7.505 Kgs and 52.53 kgs weight of 1 piece and 1 bundle of 10mm steel rod respectively.

**● summary :-** 1) 10mm steel rod weight per meter is 0.617 kgs

2) 10mm steel rod weight per feet is 0.1876 kgs

3) 1 piece 10mm steel rod weight is 7.407 kgs

4) 1 bundle (7 nos) 10mm steel rod weight is 51.85 kgs.

**12mm Steel rod weight in kg**

Calculating 12mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162 and per foot D^2 L/162. We know that 12mm dia of Steel bar have 5 number of Steel in one bundle and length of one piece of rod is 12 m.

**12mm Steel rod weight per metre in kg**

Calculating 12mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 12mm, length of rods = 1 meter, then weight of 12mm steel rod per meter = (12×12×1)/162 = 0.889 kgs, so 12mm Steel rod per metre is 0.889 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.889 is weight of 12mm Steel rod per metre in kg.

**Weight of 1 piece of 12mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 12mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 12mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, then weight of 1 piece of 12mm steel rod in kg = (12×12×12)/162 = 10.667 kgs, so weight of 1 piece 12mm Steel rod is 10.667 kgs.

● Ans :- 10.667 Kg is weight of 1 piece (12m) 12mm Steel rod.

**Weight of 1 bundle of 12mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 12mm Steel rod weight we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 12mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, number of steel in 1 bundle =5,then weight of 1 bundle of 12mm steel rod in kg = (12×12×12×5)/162 = 53.34 kgs, so weight of 1 bundle 12mm Steel rod is 53.34 kgs.

● Ans :- 53.34 Kg is weight of 1 bundle (5 nos) 12mm Steel rod.

**12mm Steel rod weight per feet in kg**

Calculating 12mm Steel rod weight per foot we used the formula D^2 L/533

If dia of steel = 12mm, length of rods = 1 feet, then weight of 12 mm steel rod per feet = (12×12×1)/533 = 0.27 kgs/ft, so 12mm Steel rod per feet is 0.27 kgs, for length = 40 feet, so weight of 40 feet or 1piece steel rod = (12×12×40)/533 = 10.806 kgs, 1 bundle = 5 nos, so weight of 1 bundle of 12mm steel rod = (12×12×40×5)/533 = 54.33 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.27 is weight of 12mm Steel rod per feet in kg,10.806 Kgs and 54.33 kgs weight of 1 piece and 1 bundle of 12mm steel rod respectively.

**● summary :-** 1) 12mm steel rod weight per meter is 0.889 kgs

2) 12mm steel rod weight per feet is 0.27 kgs

3) 1 piece 12mm steel rod weight is 10.667 kgs

**16mm Steel rod weight in kg**

Calculating 16mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162 and per foot D^2 L/162. We know that 16mm dia of Steel bar have 3 number of Steel in one bundle and length of one piece of rod is 12 m.

**16mm Steel rod weight per metre in kg**

Calculating 16mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 16mm, length of rods = 1 meter, then weight of 16mm steel rod per meter = (16×16×1)/162 = 1.580 kgs, so 16mm Steel rod per metre is 1.580 kgs.

● Ans :- 1.580 is weight of 16mm Steel rod per metre in kg.

**Weight of 1 piece of 16mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 16mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 16mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, then weight of 1 piece of 16mm steel rod in kg = (16×16×12)/162 = 18.96 kgs, so weight of 1 piece 16mm Steel rod is 18.96 kgs.

● Ans :- 18.96 Kg is weight of 1 piece (12m) 16mm Steel rod.

**Weight of 1 bundle of 16mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 16mm Steel rod weight we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 16mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, number of steel in 1 bundle =3,then weight of 1 bundle of 16mm steel rod in kg = (16×16×12×3)/162 = 56.889 kgs, so weight of 1 bundle 16mm Steel rod is 56.889 kgs.

● Ans :- 56.889 Kg is weight of 1 bundle (3 nos) 16mm Steel rod.

**16mm Steel rod weight per feet in kg**

Calculating 16mm Steel rod weight per foot we used the formula D^2 L/533

If dia of steel = 16mm, length of rods = 1 feet, then weight of 16 mm steel rod per feet = (16×16×1)/533 = 0.48 kgs/ft, so 16mm Steel rod per feet is 0.48 kgs, for length = 40 feet, so weight of 40 feet or 1piece steel rod = (16×116×40)/533 = 19.21 kgs, 1 bundle = 3 nos, so weight of 1 bundle of 16mm steel rod = (16×16×40×3)/533 = 57.63 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.48 is weight of 16mm Steel rod per feet in kg,19.21 Kgs and 57.63 kgs weight of 1 piece and 1 bundle of 16mm steel rod respectively.

**● summary :-** 1) 16mm steel rod weight per meter is 1.580 kgs

2) 16mm steel rod weight per feet is 0.48 kgs

3) 1 piece 16mm steel rod weight is 18.96 kgs

4) 1 bundle (3 nos) 16mm steel rod weight is 56.889 kgs.

**20mm Steel rod weight in kg**

Calculating 20mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162 and per foot D^2 L/162. We know that 20mm dia of Steel bar have 2 number of Steel in one bundle and length of one piece of rod is 12 m.

**20mm Steel rod weight per metre in kg**

Calculating 20mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 20mm, length of rods = 1 meter, then weight of 20mm steel rod per meter = (20×20×1)/162 = 2.469 kgs, so 20mm Steel rod per metre is 2.469 kgs.

● Ans :- 2.469 is weight of 20mm Steel rod per metre in kg.

**Weight of 1 piece of 20mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 20mm Steel rod weight per metre we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 20mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, then weight of 1 piece of 20mm steel rod in kg = (20×20×12)/162 = 29.63 kgs, so weight of 1 piece 20mm Steel rod is 29.63 kgs.

● Ans :- 29.63 Kg is weight of 1 piece (12m) 20mm Steel rod.

**Weight of 1 bundle of 20mm steel rod in kg**

Calculating 20mm Steel rod weight we used the formula D^2 L/162

If dia of steel = 20mm, length of 1 steel rod = 12 meter, number of steel in 1 bundle =2,then weight of 1 bundle of 20mm steel rod in kg = (20×20×12×2)/162 = 59.26 kgs, so weight of 1 bundle 20mm Steel rod is 59.26 kgs.

● Ans :- 59.26 Kg is weight of 1 bundle (2 nos) 20mm Steel rod.

**20mm Steel rod weight per feet in kg**

Calculating 20mm Steel rod weight per foot we used the formula D^2 L/533

If dia of steel = 20mm, length of rods = 1 feet, then weight of 20 mm steel rod per feet = (20×20×1)/533 = 0.75 kgs/ft, so 20mm Steel rod per feet is 0.75 kgs, for length = 40 feet, so weight of 40 feet or 1piece steel rod = (20×20×40)/533 = 30 kgs, 1 bundle = 2 nos, so weight of 1 bundle of 20mm steel rod = (20×20×40×2)/533 = 60 kgs.

● Ans :- 0.75 is weight of 20mm Steel rod per feet in kg,30 Kgs and 60 kgs weight of 1 piece and 1 bundle of 20mm steel rod respectively.

**● summary :-** 1) 20mm steel rod weight per meter is 2.469 kgs

2) 20mm steel rod weight per feet is 0.75 kgs

3) 1 piece 20mm steel rod weight is 29.63 kgs

4) 1 bundle (2 nos) 20mm steel rod weight is 59.26 kgs.

● notes :- actual weight of Steel bars differ 1% to 5% of this calculation because density of steel is vary from 7450 kg/m3 to 7850 kg/m3.
