Cement consumption in plaster 1:4 for 1 m2 area,in this topic we learn about cement consumption for plastering of 1 square metre area.
we know that plastering is thin layer of cement mortar used for finishing and decorative purpose of brick masonry wall .cement mortar is mixture of cement and sand in different proportion used for external plastering ,internal plastering and ceiling plaster work.
● What are types of plastering ? 1) internal plaster of brick wall:- internal plastering is used in plane surface of brick wall for finishing and decorative purpose
2) external plastering of brick wall:- external plastering is used in in a rough surface of brick wall for finishing and decorative purpose
3) ceiling plaster :- lower surface of roof of building is known as ceiling and a thin layer of cement mortar is used for ceiling plaster.
● different thickness of plastering work 1) single coat of 12 mm cement mortar thickness is used in internal plastering work
2) 20 mm cement mortar thickness is used in external plastering work in two coat first coat of 12 mm thickness for filling rough surface and second coat of 8 mm used for finishing and decorative purpose
3) 6 mm cement mortar thickness is used in ceiling plaster for finishing and decorative purpose
● different mix ratio of cement and sand 1) mix ratio of cement and sand in internal plaster is 1: 6 or 1: 5 in which one part is cement and 5 Part is sand.
2) mix ratio of cement and sand in external plaster is 1:4 in which one part is cement and 4 part is sand
3) mix ratio of cement and sand for ceiling plaster is 1:4 or 1:3 in which one part cement and three part is sand
Note :- we should select following mix ratio in this calculation
1) 1:5 for internal plastering
2) 1:4 for external plastering
3) 1:3 for ceiling plastering
● type of plaster according to adhesive material :- 1) Lime plaster
2) cement plaster
3) clay plaster
1) Lime plaster:- plaster in which lime is used as Adhesive or binding material for mortar
2) cement plaster:– plastic in which cement is used as Adhesive or binding material for mortar
3) clay plaster:- plaster in which clay is used as adhesive or binding material for mortar
● right choice of selection of cement:- we know that cement are mainly two types ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and pozzolana Portland cement( PPC). OPC cement have 33 43 and 53 Grade of cement and it’s gain earlier strength. 33,43 are old grade of cement so you should buy OPC 53 Grade of cement for plastering of your right choice.
But PPC cement have slightly edge over OPC cement because strength of PPC are more and cheaper than OPC cement. So you should do not get confused with OPC and PPC cement if you want to prepare your own house
I suggest you should used OPC 53 Grade of cement for plastering and if you want to build a project for Industrial Area you should go to use PPC cement.

cement consumption in plaster 1:4 for 1m2 area
Solve:-
Length for plaster = 1m
Width for plaster = 1m
Plaster area = 1m× 1m = 1m2
Thickness = 20mm = 0.020
Mix ratio = 1:4 ( one part is cement and 4 part is sand)
Total proportion = 1+ 4 =5
Part of cement in mix = 1/5
Part of sand in mix = 4/5
Volume of plaster work = area× thickness
= 1m2× 0.020m
Volume = 0.02 m3
20% of extra cement mortar is added in volume because of wastage and joint filling
20% of 0.02m3 = 0.004 m3
Total wet volume = 0.02+ 0.004 = 0.024m3
Now dry volume = wet volume× 1.33
Dry volume = 0.024× 1.33 = 0.03192 m3
cement consumption in plaster 1:4 for 1m2 external brick wall
Weight of cement = volume × density× part of cement in mix
Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3
Weight of one bag = 50 kg
Weight = (1/5)0.03192 m3 × 1440 kg/m3
Weight = 9.19 kg
0.1838 bags (9.19 kg) cement consumption in plaster 1:4 for 1m2 area of external brick wall
Sand calculation in m3
Volume = (4/5)× 0.03193 = 0.026 m3
1m3 = 35.32 cubic feet
Volume = 0.026×35.32= 0.90 cft
calculate cement consumption for internal plastering for 1m2 area
Solve:-
Length for plaster = 1m
Width for plaster = 1m
Plaster area = 1m× 1m = 1m2
Thickness = 12mm = 0.012
Mix ratio = 1:5 ( one part is cement and 5 part is sand)
Total proportion = 1+ 5 =6
Part of cement in mix = 1/6
Part of sand in mix = 5/6
Volume of plaster work = area× thickness
= 1m2× 0.012m
Volume = 0.012 m3
20% of extra cement mortar is added in volume because of wastage and joint filling
20% of 0.012m3 = 0.0024 m3
Total wet volume = 0.012+ 0.0024 = 0.0144m3
Now dry volume = wet volume× 1.33
Dry volume = 0.0144× 1.33 = 0.01915 m3
cement consumption for plastering of internal brick wall
Weight of cement = volume × density× part of cement in mix
Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3
Weight of one bag = 50 kg
Weight = (1/6)0.01915 m3 × 1440 kg/m3
Weight = 4.596 kg
Number of bag of cement consumption for plastering = 4.596/50 = 0.091 bags
Sand calculation in m3
Volume = (5/6)× 0.01915 = 0.016 m3
1m3 = 35.32 cubic feet
Volume = 0.016×35.32= 0.56 cft

calculate cement consumption for ceiling plastering for 1m2 area
Solve:-
Length for plaster = 1m
Width for plaster = 1m
Plaster area = 1m× 1m = 1m2
Thickness = 6mm = 0.006m
Mix ratio = 1:3 ( one part is cement and 3 part is sand)
Total proportion = 1+ 3 =4
Part of cement in mix = 1/4
Part of sand in mix = 3/4
Volume of plaster work = area× thickness
= 1m2× 0.006m
Volume = 0.006 m3
20% of extra cement mortar is added in volume because of wastage and joint filling
20% of 0.006m3 = 0.0012 m3
Total wet volume = 0.006+ 0.0012 = 0.0072m3
Now dry volume = wet volume× 1.33
Dry volume = 0.0072× 1.33 = 0.0096 m3
cement consumption for plastering of ceiling
Weight of cement = volume × density× part of cement in mix
Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3
Weight of one bag = 50 kg
Weight = (1/4)0.0096 m3 × 1440 kg/m3
Weight = 3.5 kg
Number of bag of cement consumption for plastering = 3.5/50 = 0.07 bags
Sand calculation in m3
Volume = (3/4)× 0.0096 = 0.0072 m3
