What is the difference between OPC & PPC cement,full form of OPC cement is ordinary Portland cement and full form of PPC cement is Portland pozzolana cement. Hi guys in this article we know about cement ppc vs opc and difference between OPC and PPC cement.

Generally ordinary Portland cement is known as OPC and Portland cement mix with pozzolana material about 15-30 ℅ is Portland pozzolana cement that is PPC.

So PPC cement is new variant of OPC cement. Both cements are widely used for the various purpose like beam, slab, concrete manufacturing, brick block, footing and retaining wall formation. And both OPC and PPC cement are eco-friendly in nature.

B) heat of hydration:-1) ordinary Portland cement OPC generates more heat than PPC Cement in hydration process that makes its less suitable for Casting

2) PPC cement have slow hydration process that release less amount of heat than OPC cement so it is most suitable for mass casting

C) strength:-1) initial strength of ordinary Portland cement is higher than PPC because it has fast setting time

2) PPC has higher strength than OPC cement over a long period of times because it has higher comprehensive strength

D) Grade :-1) OPC cement has three grade like 33 grade, 43 grade and 53 grade and it is available in market in all grade.

2) but PPC cement is not categorised into specified grade of cement and it is only available in market in the name of PPC cement not in the grade

E) resistance against chemical attack:-1) ordinary Portland cement has lower resistants against harmful chemical material like alkalis sulphates chlorides and carbonates when this material come in contact with OPC Cements its effects its strength and decreasing their durability.

2) PPC cement has higher resistance against harmful chemical material like alkali sulphates Chloride and carbonates because it has Pozzolona materials which provides resistance against these harmful material.

F) setting time:-1) ordinary Portland cement have lower setting time than PPC because its initial setting time is about 30 minutes and final setting time is about 300 minute so it has fastest setting times helps faster construction work

2) setting time of PPC cement is higher than OPC cement ,its initial setting time is 30 minutes and final setting time is about 600 minutes so it’s all over slower setting time helps to get better finishing work over a long period of time and increase their strength

G) Application:-1) ordinary Portland cement is most suitable for fast construction work where it is required but not suitable for mass concrete work due to heat generation

2) PPC cement is most suitable for all types of construction work like making high rise building construction bridge and dams and industrial houses

H) Durability:-1) ordinary Portland Cement is less durable in presence of harmful Chemicals material like alkalis sulphonate carbonate and Chloride and aggressive weather condition

2) PPC cement is more durable in presence of harmful chemical material likes alkalies sulphonate carbonate and chloride and aggressive weather condition

I) Cost:-1) ordinary Portland cement is costlier than PPC

2) and PPC cement is cheaper than OPC

Now question is which cement is best ppc or opc? PPC has slightly an edge on OPC as PPC has slow rate of hydration process there by PPC is prove to less cracks and reduce shrinkage and it is better to use PPC over OPC for all construction of house hold.

And there is a little difference between price of PPC and OPC. PPC have good finishing and workability.

Why PPC cement better than OPC?

PPC has higher strenght than OPC over a long period of time because OPC generates more heat than PPC in hydration process which make it not suitable for mass casting and PPC has low hydration process thus generate less heat than OPC so PPC is better than OPC cement.

For Slab casting generally used OPC or PPC cement but for industrial house construction PPC is better than OPC cement since setting process of PPC is quite slow as compared to OPC cement so the shuttering has be kept in intact for longer period of time.
