**How to calculate concrete volume**** for retaining wall.**

### * **introduction**:- we know that retaining wall are rigid wall used in hilly area to prevent from landslide of elevated soil and Stone on the road and different path. Retaining wall used in supporting soil due to a unatural elevation on two sides. retaining wall structure design to restrain the soil and it is made of concrete wall ,bricks wall and stone wall, we can see that in hilly area retaining wall constructed around the road to prevent from landslide of soil and Stone. And also several bridge and large Dam areas there is a retaining wall is constructed to prevent from load of flow of water and strength of soil elevated in down position.

### * **calculation**:- in this topic how we calculate concrete volume for retaining wall and quantity of sand cement and aggregate. Concrete of retaining wall is made of two part one part is A slab of concrete and B part is retaining wall of concrete .we have to calculate both volume of part A and part B.

### Total volume = Volume A + volume B

### ***Calculation steps:**–

1) volume of part A slab

2) volume of part B retaining wall

3) total volume of retaining wall

4) wet and dry volume of concrete

5) mix ratio of concrete

6) quantity of cement

7) quantity of sand

8) quantity of aggregate

### 1) **now we calculate volume of part A slab**

### Given measurement of slab

Length of slab = 20 m

width of slab = 3 m

thickness of slab =200mm =0.2 m

Volume of slab =l ×b ×t

Volume of slab = 20×3×0.2=12 m3

### 2) **volume of part B retaining wall ,we know that retaining wall is in trapezium shape**

### area of trapezium = (a +b)/2 × h

Volume of trapezium

### = (a+ b)/2 × h×l

### Given measurement:-

### Height of retaining wall =3 m

length of retaining wall =20m

width at base level =500mm=0.5m

width at top level =200mm=0.2m

### Volume = (0.2+0.5)/2 ×3×20 m3

Volume of retaining wall = 21 m3

### 3) **total volume of retaining wall**

### we should add volume of part A and part B to find total volume of retaining wall

Volume of part A =12 m3

Volume of part B = 21 m3

Total volume of retaining wall

= volume of part A+volume of part B

Total volume =12+21= 33m3

**2) concrete quantity calculation for staircase and its formula**

**3) how to calculate weight of mild steel plate and derive its formula**

**4) calculate quantity of cement Sand for brickwork of 10m3**

**5) cement calculation in tile work of hundred square foot area**

**6) weight calculation of Steel bar and its formula**

**7) what is admixture of concrete and its types and its properties**

### 4) **wet volume and dry volume :-**

### total volume of retaining wall is wet volume and we have to calculate dry volume by multiplying cofactor 1.54 in in wet volume

### Wet volume = 33m3

Dry volume =1.54×33 =50.82 m3

### 5) **mix ratio of concrete:- mix ratio of concrete is two** type one is ordinary type in which M10 and M15 grade of concrete are used and second one is a standard concrete type in which M20 and M25 grade of concrete is used. But M20 and when M25 is good concrete. Mix ratio of M20 is:-1:1.5:3 and mix ratio M 25 is 1:1:2 ,

in this calculation we use M20 type of concrete

### Mix ratio in M20 —(1:1.5:3)

53 Grade of Portland cement-1part

Fine aggregate (sand) – 1.5 part

Coarse aggregate – 3 part

Total proportion = 1+1.5+3= 5.5

### 6) **quantity calculation of cement**

### Volume of cement required

### 1m3 = 35.3147 cft

### = 1/5.5×50.82×35.3147 =326.307 cft

1bag cement = 1.226 cft

Number of bag of cement

= 326.307/1.226 =266 no. of bags

### 7) **quantity of sand**

### Volume of sand in cft

= (1.5/5.5) ×50.82×35.3147=489.46cft

### 8) **quantity of aggregate**

### Volume of aggregate in cft

= (3/5.5)×50.82×35.3147 =979 cft
