It is total length of circular closed ring having hook at one reinforcement used in column. suppose we have given following
Diameter of column = 800 mm
Clear cover = 40 mm
Dia of stirrups=8mm
Dia of steel in column=16mm
When we use 10 mm and 12 mm die of Steel bar in column we have clear cover is equal to 25 mm and when we use more than 12 mm die of Steel bar in column we have clear cover is equal to 40 mm.
Cutting length = circumference of circular ring + hook length – bend elongation
1) first we calculate circumference of stirrups
Circumference= 2 πr
We have given diameter of circular column
Diameter of stirrups= 800_2Cover_2×4(center to center half dia of stirrups at both sides
D of stirrups=800_(2×40)_(2×4) mm
D of stirrups=800_80_8 mm
D of stirrups=712mm
Radius of stirrups r= D of stirrups/2
Radius = 712mm/2=356mm
Circumference of stirrups =2235.68 mm
calculation of hook length of circular stirrups
In circular ring it has two hook length , minimum size of hook length is equal to 75 mm or 10d where d is dia of bar
Hook length = 10d ,but in circular ring it has two hook
hook length = 2×10d
Hook length = 2×10×8=160mm
bend elongation calculation of circular stirrup
In closed circular ring reinforcement we have two bend at 135 degrees.
● bend angle 45° = 1d
● bend angle 90° = 2d
● bend angle 135°= 3d
Bend elongation = 2bend at 135°
Bend = (2×3d)
Bend elongation = 2×3×8 = 48 mm
