Unit weight of 10mm, 12mm, 20mm & 40mm coarse aggregate | density of coarse aggregate | unit mass of 10mm, 12mm, 12.5mm, 20mm & 40mm coarse aggregate in kg/m3 | what is unit weight of course aggregate | Unit weight of 10mm coarse aggregate | Unit weight of 12mm coarse aggregate | Unit weight of 20mm coarse aggregate | Unit weight of 40mm coarse aggregate.
The quantity of aggregate in construction work calculated in kg per cubic metre or kg per cubic foot or in MT, most of people familiar with coarse aggregate or stone but some time easy question is asked what is unit weight of course aggregate. As you know that aggregate is consist of fine aggregate and coarse aggregate which is available in different size such as 10mm, 12mm, 12.5mm, 20 mm and 40mm. 10 mm and 12mm size of aggregate is less coarse while 20 mm and 40 mm aggregate is coarse aggregate.
Aggregate/ gravel/ coarse sand is most important construction material used in construction industry of various project such as building, Bridge, dams, construction aggregate, or simply aggregate, is a broad category of coarse- to medium-grained particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates. Aggregates are the most mined materials in the world.
Generally fine aggregate consist of sand silt clay and coarse aggregate consists fine gravel medium gravel coarse gravel pebbles cobbles and boulders. Fine aggregate having size less than 4.75 mm and coarse aggregate size ranging between more than 4.75 mm to 256 mm.
Aggregate in general should consist of natural occurring stones such as crushed, uncrushed or broken, riverbed single or pit gravel. It should be hard, enough strong, dense, durable, and clean. It must be free from veins, adherent coatings and injurious amounts of disintegrated pieces, alkali, vegetable matter and other deleterious substances. River gravels make the best coarse aggregate. Angular and roughly cubical particles in shape are ideal. Flaky pieces shall be avoided. It should confirm to IS 2383(I).
Unit weight of 10mm, 12mm, 20mm & 40mm coarse aggregate
We know that while finding the bulk density of different types of aggregate, their value is not fixed but it depends on handling how you can handle and minerals composition of the aggregate. So density or unit weight of aggregate is not fix but it ranging between 1520 kg/m3 to 1680 kg/m3.
Unit weight of aggregate in kilogram per cubic meter depends on density of aggregate, minerals composition and their size. Lesser dimension of aggregate have higher density due to less presence of air voids & higher dimension of aggregate have lower density due to higher presence of air voids.
10mm and 12mm size of less coarse aggregate have higher density due to lesser presence of air voids than 20 mm size and 40 mm of coarse aggregate. if there density is varies that’s why unit weight of aggregate is also veries.

Unit weight of aggregate
Unit weight or density of 10mm, 12mm, 12.5mm, 20mm & 40mm coarse aggregate/ crushed stone/ gravel/ coarse sand is ranging between 1425 kg/m3 to 1575 kg/m3, it means weight of 1 cubic meter of course aggregate is around 1425kg to 1575kg or 1.425 to 1.575 MT. It’s advisable to sample the coarse aggregates or crushed stone from the site and find out the bulk density so that exact value can be known.

Unit weight of 10mm aggregate
Unit weight or density of 10mm coarse aggregate/ crushed stone/ gravel/ coarse sand is ranging between 1525 kg/m3 to 1575 kg/m3, it means weight of 1 cubic meter of 10mm size course aggregate is around 1525kg to 1575kg or 1.525 to 1.575 MT. It is used in self compacting concrete, produced by crushing and screening blast furnace slag to a single size 10mm aggregate consisting of angular to roughly cubical shaped particles with a characteristically vesicular structure and rough surface texture.
